En Route 6/27/19

Did you both go though faarooms?
I was told the housing per diem is changing 1st of June, also. We will not receive the $$ to pay for housing. It will be paid directly to the housing company.

I went through Faarooms and saw that housing per diem change on the faa.gov site. It would have been nice to go with a cheaper option and pocket the money, but oh well. I'll be there about a week before the start date if anyone wants to get together before then. I'll be twiddling my thumbs doing nothing.

Why are you going so early?

I emailed faarooms and got a response from Corporate Housing Solutions, although they told me I took their last room for the 27th, so maybe try some of the other providers?? You can call and get a room reserved now, they will hold it with your credit card, and then when we get our welcome letter from the FAA (1-2 weeks before class starts), you can send your lodging info to the student services email account and they will get in contact with whoever you're going through and have it switched to their card.

Are you guys doing basics or are you CTI bypassing basics? Reason I ask is i'm currently in an En Route class that finishes up basics around that time with only 12 people in it so were curious to see if were going to pick up anymore when we go across the street to fill out the class or just remain at 12.

I got ya. Going well. You have your interesting days and then your dry material days. Really broad spectrum of lessons and coverage in basics. Some stuff they go into more detail on than others. One of our instructors called it "painting a picture with a really broad brush". Basically designed to get someone from 0 aviation knowledge into a general idea of things. Its great for getting yourself back into study habits and information retention though if you've been out of school for awhile. Plus like everyone else has said you get to know your classmates and figure out how you want to do things with study groups, ect..

I see, thanks for the insight! I'm excited to get this going. Im worried about taking some test I have seen mentioned on the forums. Did you guys have to take anything within your first day or couple of days? I cant remember what it was called.

Nothing that matters honestly. The second day you’ll have a CAMI day which you just run through a whole bunch of computer tests. Basically some radar simulation type test and memory recall. No big deal and some of them are actually fun. They said they were trying to figure out more screening tests for the ATSA. We go back to CAMI after basics is over.

That's not too bad then. Thanks for the info, man! I'm curious to see if we have a basics class size of 18 or not.

Anyone in this class still looking for housing - I got my check in info for Anatole today and Dolly from Corporate Housing Solutions mentioned that they had an apartment open up the 27th and one the 28th. Thought I'd mention it for anyone still looking. I've went through them and its been a breeze, and from what I've seen in the past they've been great as well.
