Hiring Bid Air Traffic Control Specialist - Trainee: FAA-ATO-16-ALLSRCE-49075 Bid

Glad to see there are fellow Buckeyes on here! I was looking at doing that program if this bid doesn't work out because I want to work traffic like everyone else does. I just don't think I can justify $50k after spending the money I have on a CTI at Kent to do the program and possibly not get hired on with one of their towers. I looked at BVI at their program and since I have my CTI degree I would only be spending about $9,500 on a CTO rather than $50k. So I don't know maybe that is still an option. Do something like get a CTO from BVI and then talk to see if they have a position open at one of their towers to earn the 52 weeks.
I'm not familiar with BVI or their program, so I can't comment on that. But I am familiar with AATC since I went to a similar program and they definitely hire their graduates. I don't know what the stipulations are so that would need to be discussed with them. I do know they allow everyone the chance to acquire time post certification there in VLD regardless. Worth looking into though as it will set you up for contract work while you wait for the FAA.

It was nice for a while, but the constant heat sucks. We live in a place that will be nice to come back to for vacations though.
I currently live in Texas so I can handle the heat. It's the cold that I hate. Body just shuts down lol. What part do you live in? We're hoping to eventually get to the Tampa/Lakeland/Orlando area.

Yeah Texas gets really hot and there's not always an ocean breeze to cool you off. I'm the same way when it comes to the cold, but the way I look at it is I can always put on more clothes. We're in the armpit, I mean, the panhandle of Florida. All jokes aside, it was a great assignment for my family and I and much better than going to Del Rio like we were originally supposed to. I would love to go to that area of Florida if I had the option, especially the Orlando area.

I haven't heard anything yet. Getting close to a month since it closed, so maybe we'll start hearing something soon, but I wouldn't stare at my email waiting for anything.

Fellow Buckeye and Army controller here. Currently attending CTI @ FSCJ . The program director manages a closed AT-CTI group on Facebook
posting updates about previous bids relevant to recent CTI graduates. Here was one of the latest posts relevant to the August 8th open bid, dated October 14th:

- AT-SA emails should go out next week, or the week after.
- Approximately 9,300 people will be tested.
- 3,600 of those are Pool 1.
- You will have 30 days to schedule the AT-SA,
- And another 30 days to take it.
- Testing should be done by mid- to late-December, so
- Referral List(s) will liklely go to ATO in January for selections.

I guess for those who still have that green check, BOLO for that email.

Thanks for the update!

Well, it looks like the rumors were proven to be true again. I was reading over on the "other" ATC site and saw that people were getting e-mails. Low and behold I got one too. Good luck to everyone here that applied to the OTS bid.

I got an email notifying me that I will be contacted by Nov 10 to schedule the AT-SA.... =D

what are the salaries for pool 2? I see the "median salaries" to be SO high however I don't see anywhere that indicates the pay scale / pay increases from academy to job placement!

I believe candidates that go to the academy get paid the equivalent of around $17-20k/year with close to $100/day for housing/food per diem. If you graduate the academy, you move to AG (academy grad) pay, which is in the low 40's plus whatever the locality is for your facility. Best of luck!

This. Also, if you have 52 weeks of ATC experience then you get the lowest D-pay that the facility has, IAW the Slate book.

Yea, academy pay is around $23,000 a year (that includes DC locality of 24.78%). Plus you get per diem (a little under $100 per day). Upon graduating, you will get AG pay (around $40k a year depending on locality of your facility). As you progress through training at your facility, you will move up to DEV1/2/3 pay [every facility is different, you can check specific facilities here: https://pointsixtyfive.com/xenforo/resources/categories/facilities.6/ ]. Once checked out you will get CPC pay.
