Why would they [NATCA] do that? Considering we have a decades old staffing problem, wouldn’t we want all the attention/oversight we could get? I also feel like removing “public safety” from our job description will give the agency more reason to take away our “good time” retirement one day and say “that’s for law enforcement, firefighters etc.” Terrible play imo considering how negotiating under binding arbitration works, gives them one more valid argument to strip that away if we get to the table.NATCA and the FAA collaborated a couple years back to remove “public safety” from the ATC job description and government classification, they thought it put too much pressure and additional attention/oversight on the job.
So no, we are not “good”, unless you consider being good as being under a hiring freeze (which I do and I hope it extends till the end of the fiscal year).
If they took away good time no one would do this job. Sure the naive off the street chasing six figures may.
