Any LAX controllers in here? I'm curious whereabouts you all commute from and how long it takes during weekdays.

Considering that the only 2 highways that’s connect to LAX are the 405 and the 105. Your commute to work will be over a hour. Unless you live in El Segundo.

Occupied gates. Clogged alleyways. Nowhere to stash planes while they wait for the aforementioned occupied gates to open. Aircraft on end gates having to push out onto and block your busy taxiway. Traffic volume from hell. Frequency congestion also from hell. Inboard runway arrivals in the middle of your damn departure push. That enough reasons?

That def sounds legit. How do people fare coming from higher level tracons? Do you guys get any of those at all?

I don’t work at LAX but I’ve visited the tower a couple of times. I think the only down time is in the early AM hours. If your coming from a tracon, I don’t think there’s any comparison. LAX is one of its kind. Just like JFK is one of its kind. Can’t really compare those airports to anything else in the world. Listen to ground south for a couple of days on LiveATC so you could get a idea of how it’s like. From what the controllers in the past I’ve talked to at LAX, they’ve always mentioned if you get passed ground then you’re smooth sailing. But they’ve also said to consider LAX you have to be a mad man.

For sure man. I have no doubts LAX is a beast. I worked at N90 for a while and got a good look at how busy and complex those higher level towers can get. Just finished up at D01 and this airport can really handle some volume but I don't think the tower stands up to LAX and Kennedy in terms of complexity. Don't quote me on that, though. I don't want to make it seem like those guys aren't working hard, because they move a lot of metal.

You don't really wanna go to LAX! What's wrong with D01? I thought that was a nice place to live and work at!
