Regarding the tracons like N90. How are/were there identifiers thought of?

90 = how many years until they can release someone

Let me explain more since we have 3
naming conventions for N90 SCT and MIA. Why not keep with only one name format at least the ones that have to do with Class B airspace.

Pretty easy... MIA is an up/down so that's the airport code. N90 is a standalone tracon so you have a letter and 2 digits. SCT is a consolidated tracon just like NCT and PCT meaning one facility took over a large tracon and a bunch of small ones and consolidated them into one facility.

The number after the letter is to tell you how many more CPCs are needed before they are at an adequate staffing level.

Minneapolis - 98
Chicago - 90
New York - 90
Atlanta - 80
Vegas - 30

and so on...Hopefully you're good Denver

In other words, there's no rime or reason why the standalone like N90 are named the way they are
