I try :)

Anyone here work Glen Rose specialty?
Not me, but I heard that's where the grumpiest controllers in the center work.

I had a friend that withdrew from training because of a bad call (not his) on a deal they gave him in that area.

Find a place as close to the center as you can bc commute times are atrocious and only getting worse with a number of big companies moving their headquarters to the DFW area.

That's a fairly broad question... do you specifically mean ft worth or just for working at the center? The center is in the middle of a massive metro area so if you want particular suggestions some other info would be needed. Center transfer or trainee? Family? Location preferences (quiet vs city etc.)?

Traffic can be bad depending on where you are but in general it's limited to 7-9am and 4-6pm. On a controller schedule it's typically avoided. I've found most that think traffic here is bad haven't lived in very many other large metro areas. I mean the fact that at 5pm on a Friday you can actually get some places without hitting more than a merge slowdown isn't bad. But yes if you're trying to go from dallas to a North suburb at 5 it sucks. Still better than elsewhere. Construction is never ending but the general approach to it is ahead of other places too.... especially if you can get over paying tolls.
I grew up in the northeast where they spend 5 years adding 1 lane to a stretch of freeway that needed triple the capacity 30 years ago. DFW is behind on public trans but theres signs of improvement there as well.

This is true. I lived in McKinney and any time I would try to down down 75 to dallas or 121-635(?) to FW it was a PITA. Now I'm in the in DC area and it's awful haha. Thankfully my commute to work is pretty quick overall and public transit is amazing. What area are you in?

I own a house in For Worth!!! Cheaper, newer, more quite and better to the west of the airport if you ask me!

Where do most of the controllers live? Or where would you recommend for someone with kids?
people live all over the place, it depends on what you are looking for, if you have children (education wise), how much you can afford etc., but the people i know live about 1.5 hours away to less than 5 min by walking, so its a very diverse range, wish i could help you out, especially with education wise but i cannot :-/

I already live in the DFW area and would love to place here after graduation if stars align. Just curious, what would you say is the expected time frame to move from AG to D1, D2, etc? I understand it varies, as with all things, but if you even have a general timeline or existing thread discussing, that would be appreciated!

Man that really does vary. I don’t know the training delays or situation at ZFW but for
Instance without training delays, you’re looking at 4-5months of Map, non-radar, and DYSIM on AG pay. After that you’ll hit the floor and start D-Side training. Depending on if you work your first sector combined with another or not will effect time. Probably safe to say 2-5 months for your first 2 D-Sides, then you’ll be D1 pay. For the remainder of your D-Sides will be another 3-7 months then you’ll be D2. Then you have R-School which will be 2months ish, then repeat. All said and done it’s an open ended question because delays, pro-time after certification, combined sectors, training difficulty/speed, etc etc. The training averages on the staffing tab is generally a pretty accurate time rate from day 1 at the facility to CPC. Now of course some people are quicker, some right on with it, and some take way longer

That staffing tab is what prompted my questioning, and I appreciate the detail you provided in your response. Certainly gives me a good idea what to expect coming out the gate, assuming I make it that far ;)
