Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA)

It's not really whether they "should be" showing up to work with the flu.. Pre-pandemic, if they wanted to show up sick as a dog, I would've never said a word. I get wanting to save your sick leave, especially since 99% of my sick leave usage to begin with is when my wife wants me to stay home with her.

Obviously we're in a different scenario now, if somebody is actually sick, they shouldn't show up to work. But this wasn't really what I was getting at.
I think for the next couple years people aren’t going to be super excited about ppl coming to work sick. And Brad’s probably a good thing.

Sick leave is to be determined by the person the has accrued it. If the person sick feels he can still perform his duties, why can he not work? Everyone does it. It’s not gonna change. It’s different with a virus now. But I bet when this is all behind us, we will continue to have people come in when they’re sick
So if I’m in a disqualifying medication but feel I can work I should make that choice for myself? Cmon.
I’m just saying this is a pandemic and you got sick take fucking sick leave and don’t expose your coworker. I don’t see this as being so hard and no reason to be petty especially since chances are you recieved how many free days of pay for not working.

If your on disqualifying medication your DQ’d. Wtf. Never said anything about that.
The next part is pre covid, people would show up sick. Everyone did that. Yeah it sucks they were sick and at work. What if that person used all their leave because they wanted to have a 3 day weekend or whatever their reason and now they got sick and at work? You expect someone to go LWOP?
Now in the middle of my last statement I said “it’s different now with a virus” covid is completely different. But I still think SL shouldn’t be forced. As someone previously stated they figured out a loophole to make it forced. When this is all over and covid is a thing of the past, do you think people will show up sick to work?

I think our society was wrong with people working sick. Really feel bad for someone that bangs out all the time then has no sick leave?

yes i do and i think its sad that they come to work sick. we get sick leave for this exact reason. just fucking bang out geez that's what its there for. especially when many other professions don't get sick leave. just use your leave.

also they found the loophole because we are too fucking stupid to call out sick while symptomatic and have to be forced to not come to work. like how stupid could you be? stay the fuck home. how many cases have i heard about people showing up to work symptomatic infecting many if not all other people on shift. natca cant argue when their own people treat each other like shit.

Good point. Maybe the FAA should give us two different categories of leave - one for personal vacation time, and one for when we're sick? How about that?

The problem with stretching every rule to the absolute limit is that the rules can always be changed. Having to give a bunch of controllers additional free leave because they used all their sick time to fly to Disney during a pandemic is exactly the type of thing that might cause the FAA to take a closer look at sick rules in the next contract. What's to stop them from saying "You feel sick? Gotta go to the flight surgeon and have him check you out or it's LWOP."

I can’t comprehend how so many people have no sick time. I have over 30 days and I’ve been hired for 3 years only.

I too, had a bunch of SL. Then I had two surgeries and some kids in the span of four years. So yeah... That's how I started running low.

That’s why I keep so much. I have a buddy that got an acl surgery and needed 2 months. Every since then I carry a lot. But there’s guys that bang every pay period just cus they don’t feel like coming in!

You’ll understand when you get rated lol
Maybe hahah. I always say why would I use this at half pay if it doesn’t expire

Yeah I think people should save their sick leave for situations that cause them to not be at work. Do I feel bad for people who run out of sick leave? Not really. No. Everyone has a different situation. I knew a guy that throughout training was taking sick leave whenever he earned it. Why? Did he not want to certify? No. His wife had a medical condition and wanted this job but also wanted to be there for her. Still after years takes sick leave whenever he can. No sick leave letter. People know what’s going on. And if he showed up sick to work, I’m not gonna say one thing about it.

Sure. He has a reason. His wife is sick.

People do that in the real world all the time. My friend is a bookkeeper and he takes every Friday off from May to September to golf. He doesnt have to use sick leave because he works for a normal employer that isnt 30% understaffed and cant approve spot leave. He just says "hey boss, I've been performing the duties of my job satisfactorily and I think I'd like to enjoy the nice weather during the summer and take off every Friday this summer."

The FAA and NATCA should just sign an MOU that says "we dont do spot leave" to make it easier. Four years in my last facility, there wasnt a single summer day where I could have taken spot leave. Every single leave slot for the summer was filled during PTL bidding. Every single one.

We have lots of perks as controllers, but the fact that we cant take a random day off here and there and our vacations are set in stone when we bid every year in October is frankly unacceptable. Imagine if Reagan had actually done what he promised the controllers in his letter to PATCO and we had 32 hour work weeks? I would happily give up 20% of my salary to work 4 day work weeks and be afforded the opportunity for taking leave like a normal employer.

I'd probably give up the other 80% if I never had to see a manager again.

Book keepers don’t need to be there 24/7 or whatever the hours are at facilities, that’s why it doesn’t matter for him to golf on fridays. There is a min number of people required to be at each facility at any given time. if they have that and only that why would they approve to go less?
You friend also works more than 4 hours a day. What do we actually work? 20 on average.
Just an unfortunate reality. He doesn’t get our Heath insurance or tap matching or pension. Pick your poison
Close facilities and move people to others. It would help solve the staffing crisis at many places.

That doesn’t really happen in shift work. When I worked in an office I could scam my schedule in 90 different ways to avoid taking leave.

In the office you find 90 ways to scam time off. In the agency you complain non stop about everyone getting free leave...

“But but mah theoretical paycheck!!!!”

Most CPCs I know forced on 6 day work weeks would be happy to take LWOP and the pay cut.

And I think everyone should be back to work. If you can sustain the Covid schedule and still train go team, if not the back to BWS.

Yah. When your in salary the goal is to work the least amount of hours possible. On hourly it’s to work the most amount of hours possible. Lol

I just want someone to restock the damn vending machine with Twix, cause there is a bag of popcorn and two oreo dunkers left in there and that's it.

The light doesn't even work anymore, it's dead inside yet still serves it's purpose to whoever is desperate enough.

Bring back everyone so the vending machine is restocked dammit.

Our vending machines were managed by natca then our treasurer got sick of dealing with them and got rid of them so we don’t have shit now

Ours is ran by TechOps, and I'm not really sure how it works out but they've been "teleworking" this whole time.
