NATCA President Paul Rinaldi will testify Wednesday, June 23, at 2:30 p.m. EDT, before the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation Subcommittee on Aviation Safety, Operations, and Innovation, during a virtual hearing titled, “Aviation Infrastructure for the 21st Century.”

On behalf of NATCA, Paul has been asked to address the current state of U.S. air traffic control facilities and offer any recommendations NATCA has regarding the modernization of the U.S. air transportation system as a core component of aviation infrastructure.

We hope you will watch the hearing tomorrow. NATCA members may view this hearing via a live stream and on demand after the hearing. Witness testimony, opening statements, and the live and on-demand videos of the hearing will be available on the subcommittee's webpage here.

Other witnesses will include:​
  • Tucson Airport Authority President and CEO Danette Bewley,
  • Southwest Airlines Vice President for Real Estate Paul Cullen, and
  • RAND Corporation representative Benjamin Miller.

Can you elaborate on the NAVCAN failure? I want to make sure I have the facts before stating my opinion
 
Anybody read the email?

The bill gives the ability to use the aviation trust fund to fund the agency (our paychecks) for 30 days. Doesn't do you any good when Donnie Jay throws a fit for two and a half months in order to not get his wall, but it's something.

I feel (my memory is a bit fuzzy) there was a bill about that a while back that got passed. I need to brush up on it, but it is a good plan so I cannot argue that.

I think the bill was about that they had to pay us retroactively by law

They laid off most of their trainees for starters ?‍♂️

they’re already desperately trying to spool training back up.
ok thought I had missed something. Absolute dumbasses trying to a save a few bucks at the expense of shooting themselves in the foot.
 
Yeah there were a couple bills that were proposed last Congress. One was about making back pay guaranteed for furloughed gov't employees—something Congress had always done before, but wasn't an automatic guarantee. That passed. It doesn't affect most 2152s because we were working anyway and therefore were always getting guaranteed backpay, but it affected non-essential employees (including trainee 2152s, those who lost their medicals, etc). That bill applies to the entire government.

Then there was another bill specific to the FAA that would allow us to draw on the AATF directly to keep paychecks coming in real time in the event of a government shutdown. That bill didn't pass, but I guess it's been proposed again.
 
I like how we are lobbying to get paid during shutdowns and not lobbying to not have shutdowns
The simplest thing would be to remove us from appropriations, but that in itself is not simple. There are larger forces at play here and at times politicians (both sides) will use us as a pawn along with other departments. Not having a shutdown is outside of the realm of NATCA’s legislative involvement.
 
But we were told private companies are so much better....
Federal Government: Hey airlines, here's billions of dollars to get you through this pandemic. Don't fire your employees and be ready to resume operations when things pick back up, please.

Airlines: Thanks for the money! We'll make sure to pay our CEO's 8-figures and fire/furlough/forced-retire employees as soon as we legally can!

*Things pick back up*

Citizens: Why the hell are all these flights being cancelled?

Airlines: It's that damn labor shortage that we had nothing to do with! And global warming! NO! DON'T LOOK BEHIND THAT CURTAIN!

*Pulls back curtain to see CEOs diving Scrooge McDuck-style into pools of money.*

Why won’t these people check screaming passengers in for 8 dollars an hour anymore?!
 
The biggest change is guaranteeing pay while in a shut down. Which also allows us to use leave which is a pay status. So it stopped us from taking two weeks off every fiscal year hoping to get the leave for free lol.
Don't forget-if you use sick or annual it's on you.
