This thread is for those who received a start date of 10/01/2021, with a projected in-person academy date of 11/05/2021. Sounds like there's only 8 of us in total. I've already put in a reservation with Kim's Place.

Thanks for starting this. I confirmed my reservation with her this morning. I will be driving to the academy.

Sweet! Seems like a nice place, very 'home-y'. The grocery list is a nice addition. Can't think of anything else I'd want aside from what they provide. Even have a garage!

Agreed. A couple people I know recommended it. What state you coming from?

That’s a long drive man. Damn! Utah. About 17 hour drive. You married? Kids? My family will be staying In Utah.
Single, no kids. What's your background like? Are you in the aviation industry? I went to school for Pro Pilot, got my Private Pilot Certificate, transferred to Aviaiton Administration and received my B.S. in that, been working airport ops for the last almost 5 years.

That’s great. How long have you been trying to get hired? Yes.
I’m an RPO at Salt Lake TRACON. Been working on getting hired since 2017. Fortunately got hired!!

Lmao and here I thought RPO were your initials. I just looked it up, so its like data input for controllers in training at TRACONs/Centers? That's so funny, I was watching a video the other day on the Chicago Tracon...

So at 23:19, that's what you do, right? Seems like you'd have a really good advantage then, being around the radar scope and listening to the radio calls. That's really cool!

I initially applied back in 2018, got qualified on that ATSA, didn't get picked up. 2019, well qualified, didn't get picked up. 2020, ATSA appt. got canceled due to COVID, but my carry-over well qualified from the previous year must have been good enough to get me in, and so here I am! I was very surprised to say the least, I totally forgot about it and come September of 2020 when I received the TOL I was shocked.

Lol! That seems like a cool video to watch. I’ll check it out, but yes that’s my current job. I don’t really know how it will help in training, if at all. Maybe that I’ve used my phonetic alphabet for a long time, but we will see. Side note, the time stamp (23:19) reminds me of Monsters Inc, but I digress.

that’s awesome man. I’m glad you got hired. It seems like a really good gig and exciting/challenging work. It still feels unreal for me. I scored “qualified” on my first ATSA, then “well qualified” on the 2020 ATSA. I can’t wait to work planes!! What cities do you hope to end up in?

I didn't even make the connection to Monsters Inc, that's so funny.

Happy we both made it through! And yeah, definitely doesn't feel like real life. We'll both do great, just have to keep our heads in the books and focus. And honestly anywhere that isn't the NY/NJ area would be great. It's time for a change of scenery. But I'd like to end up somewhere with A) A decent training success rate, B) A really good pay rate, and C) An area that I like. What about you?

Glad to hear you say that. I hear rumors that some people attend the academy and just fuck around and don’t study. That won’t be me for sure.
I’d like Salt Lake given that my wife and I already live here, but wouldn’t mind ATL, or Denver. I’ll be stoked to go anywhere. I’m just happy I got the job. I feel like I got hired at my dream job, and they are guaranteeing me a good salary, and all I have to do is study hard and get good grades. Pretty good trade off.

Yeah, I can't imagine receiving the opportunity to have the government pay you hourly, pay for housing, give you a per diem, provide you with benefits, AND provide you with a new job opportunity only to flush it all down the toilet by screwing around. If I fail the academy, it's because I just didn't have 'it', not because I didn't study enough.

Straight up. You sound like a good dude. Stoked we have the same class. Out of curiosity, how old are you? I’m 30.

Happy birthday. My name is Truman by the way. I like running, watching movies. Just got into rock climbing. What are your hobbies?
Thanks Truman! I'm Daniel. Seems like when I'm not working night shift I sleep a lot, so I guess that's kinda a hobby? ? Night shift will do that to you, so I'm looking forward to getting back to a normal day schedule. I enjoy video games in my spare time. Also always looking for new movies to discover. What genre movies do you like?

Good to meet you. I like gritty dramas and thrillers. If a film is rated R for violence it’s probably going to be cool lol.
