Thoughts on Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary

I have no big opinion, Transportation Secretary is not a sexy or high profile cabinet position, it has historically been a position they threw whoever in and neither the public or government officials care enough to scrutinize it. I don’t expect it to make any real difference in day to day operations or working conditions. Some people were scared of the current secretary but has she done anything negative to ATC? No, if anything NATCA is in its strongest position ever and scams (Covid schedules, collaborative details, etc....) are at their highest levels ever.

Political appointees only really make a difference for us in contract years. CBA makes it hard for them to do big changes for us.

Overall I’d say I agree on Pete though, I don’t mind him so it doesn’t really make a difference to me. I know he’s got a strong interest in transportation and infrastructure so hopefully that’s means he’s enthusiastic about the job.

He was a cia plant to try and disrail the trump administration after nobody was excited for biden. This failed because of kamala harris, who will be president shortly after biden is out of office. As for thoughts of head of transportation I have no idea. The lefties really thought this though

I mean, I wouldn’t say having someone with absolutely zero experience in transportation being in charge of the Dept. is particularly exciting, but like others have said, hopefully he’s good to work out the next contract with.

Honestly a high speed rail system would be great for this country so.... Okay awesome?
After riding the bullet trains in Japan, it would be fucking amazing to be able to hop on a train and be in Florida in 5 hours without having to deal with airport security and having a shit ton of leg room and all the other garbage that comes with flying...but it would also require an insurmountable investment in new infrastructure that is probably never going to happen. Not unless Tokamak reactors become practical and unlimited electricity means free charging for all the automated Tesla tractor trailers so we get dirt cheap point-to-point cargo that renders freight trains obsolete so that we can repurpose all the freight rails as dedicated passenger rails.

THANKS OBAMA

Trains are an absolute mess in all honesty. I lived in japan for over 3 years and the only way they were able to make it a success was because they made driving so incredibly expensive. For me to drive for 45 minutes each way on the highway to go to the airport and back it was almost 180 USD. In big cities, sure you can do a subway but anything like japan for long range travel is out of the question wihout major changes to the way the US travels.

The land mass of this country combined with the layout of our cities and 'burbs are just not conducive to a large network of usable rail systems. This country is really good at driving cars and flying planes and both are huge national economic backbones. Really the only Amtrak route that generates net positive cash flow is between Maine/Boston and New York. The rest of the routes lose money and that debt is annually absorbed by the US Government. My opinion - we just stay the course and keep doing what works. And if the government starting next year tries to make vehicular operation more difficult or financially unfeasible on any grounds, most notably 'climate change', I'm really going to have something to say about that.
*steps off soapbox*

Contract should be good. Wouldn't be surprised if it just rolled over, which would have probably of happened anyways.

I'm sure we will have 40 hours of diversity and EEO training per year added. Everyone will get pronouns added to initials. Can't wait.

Please tell me you’re trolling.
