SCT shouldn’t count. If you took their airspace and put it on the east coast it would stretch from DC to Boston

It truly makes you think how some of these things are calculated for pay levels.
Examples:
  • CLT is 39% less busy than ORD, but they’re both 12s. CLT isn’t even an up/down anymore. The same applies to MIA.
  • How is PCT a 12? They have 8% more ops than C90 (with more than twice the airspace) and 28.5% less traffic than N90 who has less airspace.
  • How are I90 and D01 level 12s?
  • How is ZJX a level 11?
It’s time to bring back level 13...

Honest question, How is IAH an 11 and SFO a 10?

I don't know anything about IAH but SFO being busier and having so little space and being so close to a ton of other fairly busy airports, seems like that should be looked at.

All that construction really hurt ATL numbers

A true up/down works every position in the building. They aren’t a true up/down anymore. So they shouldn’t be in the up/down category for CI. The same applies to MIA.

MIA and CLT have had you work tower and departure or all radar for a long time. This isn’t new.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the explanation.

I'm guessing you still have to certify on every position though.

Don't know about SFO, but at IAH they land/depart on the three parallel east/west runways and push out a lot of departures on 15/33 L and R. Maybe a converging runway CI bump. They were a 12 until a few years ago.

CLT started that roughly 5 years ago. If they’re going to be classed as an up/down, everyone should work every position. If they don’t, then they should be split like other former up/downs. Most likely, CLT would fall to a level 11 tower and separate approach and MIA would be a level 10/11 tower and the approach would be 12.

They were like that when I toured in 2011.
