Since the terminal/enroute assignments are not given on the TOL anymore, if we get assigned enroute when we are given our dates, is it possible to switch to terminal or you get what you get?

There have been reports here of people being successful when they ask to go from EnRoute to Terminal, but the majority of instances are not successful. Not many Terminal to EnRoute that I've seen.
Enroute CPC transferring to Tower only (returning to academy is not mandatory).
Is it very beneficial to go back to the academy or is it better to just start training at the facility?

I realize it's just a game but would anyone say Tower Simulator 3 is a good/accurate introduction for oneself before transferring to tower? Trying to familiarize myself with as much as possible but don't want to learn inaccurate information

No. At most all you’ll get is the airport layout and runways.
edit: you’re better off getting a tour of the tower you want to transfer to. I was radar and transferred to a tower. When I visited I stayed for almost an hour just watching the operation.

I transferred to a tower as an enroute CPC they offered the academy option but it was a 6 month wait. Towers are all pretty unique. If you go to a high level tower there’s not much the academy really helps with because the high volume typically makes all the things you learn at the academy useless like VFR pattern work. The training program teaches you almost ground up anyways.

That's what I've heard. That the academy helps more for the lower level towers that deal more with general aviation and not so much with the higher level towers. Not to mention it feels kind of pointless to learn the academy airspace just to go to the facility to learn an airport layout that's completely different.
Do you have any tips for the transition to tower? Anything to study to get a head start?
