Failed polygraph and ATC Hiring Process

I applied for a job with the FBI back in 2017 and made it to the polygraph stage. I was nervous during the exam, and I ended up failing the polygraph despite being completely honest during the whole thing. I did appeal the decision, and my appeal was denied.

Will my failed polygraph with the FBI show up during the background investigation with the FAA, and if so, do you guys think it’ll show up and be an issue for me?

I have no criminal history or past drug use or anything like that—my background is completely clean. I‘m pretty sure I wasn’t officially denied a security clearance or anything. Truthfully, I’m not even sure I made it to the actual security investigation because the polygraph was the first step after actually being interviewed for the position.

Right now, my plan of action is to not bring it up unless I’m specifically asked about applying for other government jobs prior to this (and so far, I haven’t been). What do you think my chances are with the security investigation? I hope I’m not wasting my time and getting my hopes up.

Also failed a CBP Poly and was told by HR it won't affect your process when applying for other Federal agencies unless they also require a Poly.

I think in eQIP, which is the thing they use to gather info for your background investigation, they ask if you were ever denied/revoked a security clearance. But a few have mentioned that they got hired and it didn’t matter. If you are really worried about it you can bring it up in one of the comment sections of the eQIP if you want. I wouldn’t purposely hide anything background/medical wise.

Failing or not passing a Fed Poly is classified as pre-employment suitability testing, different from being denied a clearance or haven’t it revoked.

Yeah, i wasn’t sure if it is considered a denial of sec clearance. I’d get nervous if I had to take a polygraph test too.

I’ve taken quite a few for various positions and they aren’t that bad as long as you just listen to the examiner and don’t try to manipulate the system. Funniest part is I failed my CBP one because when asked “if I conduct personal business on government computers”, I answered yes and they said I was lying ? yep ok then.
