Going on vacation before academy?

Would this be okay once you have your FOL in hand? I'm going to wait to get that but once you do is it okay to go overseas or something and come back a week before your class date? Or is there stuff you have to be on top of like that welcoming package that you need to stick around and wait for?

Also when do you get info about per diem/housing/getting paid/etc.? Welcoming package?

You don’t have to stick around for your welcome package since they send that to your email, and you probably won’t even get it until about a week before your class starts anyway.

I would recommend to just have your housing set up, you can do that before receiving the welcome package.

As far as getting paid, and per diem there are a few other threads that go into detail about that here, but basically expect your first check about 3 weeks after your class start date and first per diem check about 4 weeks after your start date. They’ll show you how to approve and what you have to do for your per diem once you get to the academy.

So just to confirm/be a little more specific, reimbursements for driving/a flight over to the academy and payments for housing and all is stuff that you deal with once you actually get there?

Though I'm guessing booking a flight through them would be the exception since you have to do that ahead of time lol

Yes all those reimbursements would be on your per diem, so keep baggage fees receipts if you fly, Uber receipt, etc. And like I said they’ll show you how to do all that once you get there, around day 10.

As far as housing payments, you shouldn’t pay anything since now it’s all agency billed, travel office should take care of that for you once you send them the reservation/confirmation number that your housing provider gives you.
