How difficult would it be to work as ATC somewhere in the NJ/NY area?

I know that after the academy, they give a list of places to choose from and assuming my first choices will not include NY/NJ, I will be okay with that. However how difficult/long should I expect to wait before I can hope to return to the state where my family lives?

Willing to go to N90? Should be pretty simple. They appear to have the eternal staffing problem.

Not sure about N90, hear their pass rate, especially for new trainees is abysmal.

It really depends on where you end up and if the facilities you’re trying to get to can select. I know people who were out in under a year and a half and others that are going on almost 5 years.

It’s not unrealistic that MMU, CDW, HPN, FRG or ISP would be on your list if you’re terminal. AVP and ABE is offered fairly frequently too if you don’t mind Pennsylvania.

Friend of mine got HPN on his list earlier this year. Hes heading to the academy next month. Then there's N90, of course.
