Anyone have a gif of a plane identing? Trying to dispel the pilots myth that if you need something just ident to get our attention. They seem to think identing does something dramatic on our scope.

It does: It’s one of the dramatic secondary methods of identifying them!

This isn’t helpful but I’ve never had any luck finding good images of stars on the internet. Every image of a atc radar scope seems to be center radar of some kind.

yeah that’s the same problem I’ve had. Either center or old school scopes

Yeah you notice it but it’s not like fireworks are going off on the scope. I actually had to sit for a second and actually think about what it looks like when I read the OP. That’s how minor of an alert it is.

Look's less obvious than that on stars. Just blocks the type a/c until they stop identing (super annoying also) and flashes 'ID'.

i looked at that one already but I’ve never worked anywhere even before STARS where the whole data tag flashed. Always just been “ID” flashing next to it a couple times

That’s what I was gonna say. Literally have to get up close to the scope and look for the ident.

I worked at centers for more then a decade. I remember when someone flew through with it stuck on, less annoying yes, but still made me go, why is that target symbol wrong...

My favorite is when pilots ident about 2 miles before your going to give them there approach clearance. As if I haven’t cleared thousands of a/c in the exact spot they need to be cleared in.

or when they stert the flash on departure before they even call you so you have to wait for them to stop identing to ask them to ident. Or at least that’s what I do because I’m petty.
