Is there any hiring path from flight data to controlling?

Title pretty much says it. I would like to know if there is any way for someone to go from flight data at a center to a controlling at the same center. (Beyond simply apply for an all-sources bid and trying to get lucky.)

Fly data at a center and Data in the terminal aren't even close to being the same thing.

I was referencing the Center positions. My point was that all the positions are basically errand boy positions, but I don't have years of experience so everything I say is automatically incorrect. Yes, I do agree with both you and GulfBravoPapa.

Also, I realize AG's are completely different from D3's, D2's, and D1's.

My bad, as you were.

It's not the same, if you pursue it will suffer the same fate as the guy who was on here for two years waging the war that Flight Service Specialists should be able to transfer into ATC job or ERR. That guy quit out of frustration (too bad, he was a good guy who had balls and was fighting the good fight, only time he ever stepped in the shit is when he called FSS the "third ACT option").

But yeah, you would think you might have preference and you probably should, but the FAA see that job as nothing more then any other 40 hour a week job you need to have for 4 years to qualify to apply OTS if you don't have a degree.

Flight service should be able to transfer but NATCA is cucking them too

If you don’t have prior experience as an actual controller, you have to apply to an all source bid.

If you DO have experience as a controller, is there a path (to the same center)? Can a Z pick someone up straight out of a prior experience bid? And don't you have to separate first or am I mixing that up with CPC reinstatement?

In other words can you go CPC Facility A -> Flight Data Facility B -> CPC Facility B?

If you have FAA CPC experience and have been out for a year you can apply directly to that center. If you are prior mil or contract tower experience you'd have to apply via OTS or Prior EXP.

I believe I have the answer, but has any CPC left a 2152 to a 2154, to get to where they want, and then get back into a 2152 position? Would it still just be the- wait a year and apply directly?

To answer your second question, yes, that's how it works on paper. I would get in contact with the atm at the other facility first and see how he/she feels about it bc a lot of atm's are clueless on the reinstatement route and don't necessarily care to put in the effort.

I know a guy who washed out of ZOA but they made him a data duck. He then applied OTS for Terminal, took the lowest level, easiest tower he could get to guarantee checkout, then transferred back to the Bay Area for a tower job. That's a path.

I don’t think you can apply for OTS bids as a training failure anymore.
