Zoom Class Variations For AG’s

Obviously with most AG people still at home, I thought it might be interesting to have an informal poll/discussion on how different facilities are handling Zoom classes for trainees.

From what I’ve heard, there seems to be a huge range as to how they’re being implemented 7-8 months down the road. It sounds like some facilities require attendance for several hours every day, while others aren’t doing them at all anymore. Likewise with content, some are doing lessons/reviews that are helpful, and others are just watching YouTube videos or coming up with other time wasting/filler content.

If the Zoom class thing was a national mandate, why does there seem to be such a wide spectrum on how they’re being implemented?

Everything about this job is nationally mandated, but every facility does things differently lol.
Some facilities not doing Zoom at all seems like a bit of a stretch though. Obviously individual facilities have discretion with varying directives, but how is opting out of work completely accepted?

Can you imagine having to sit around on zoom, as an “instructor”, with a bunch of people who don’t want to be there? I highly doubt anyone is taking the zoom classes very seriously (maybe the occasional rando does) and it is a waste of everyone’s time. Some facilities are probably not retarded and realize this.

True. Some people are stuck doing it at least 20 hours a week lol. I think those are the ones that are mostly YouTube videos now.

So are you guys ever tested on any of the information learned? I heard people were being tested on their center’s airspace and I’m guessing other subjects pertaining to their Z. Not only the occasional test, but upon passing these test they receive raises? Can anyone confirm or deny this?

No one is getting a raise for passing a map test

Some places are letting brand new hires test on their area maps. But a lot of the trainees are well beyond that phase of training

We were told on no uncertain terms that pre-certification raises were out of the question and got hit with the "well NAVCanada fired all their trainees so..."

I’ve been lurking for a while, but “at my Z” we have all AGs, D1s, and D2s still doing zoom Mon-Thurs either 8-12 or 12-4. Luckily our zooms are usually only 2 hours but sometimes can take the whole time. We were not brought in for currency in October, and so all of us lost our certs and our county was red until recently. We are now orange. There are about 70 of us not in the building and we can only go back 4 at a time as we need datacomm. :))))
