Didn’t this administration say Kabul wasn’t in imminent danger a few days ago? Also where is Joe? Probably off somewhere trying to find some choca-choca chip ice cweam. ?
Camp David. Supposed to address the nation in the next day or so about all this.

And ya they fucked up Bigly on the security estimates, but they've been overestimating the fighting abilities and strength of the ANA for years according to multiple people I know who've done multiple tours there the last 2 decades. Of the multitudes I know only a handful actually have good things to say about the ANA and ANP regulars.

Additionally, many in the ANA were either paid off by the taliban or we’re just straight up sympathizers. So they either deserted or helped roll out the welcome mat.

They prolly should have rolled out from their secure base lol. Instead of using the airport. Now the taliban has the base and the airport is a shit show with civilians

NSFL
"Thier secure base" IS the airport. It's basically split in half with a mil side and a civ side, they share the runway and some taxiways, which are unsecured and the afghans are all roaming around on. Im no expert but I don't think you can depart a c17 straight from the ramp last I checked.

32andBelow military security expert everyone.

Wasn’t the main base Bagram? Is that at KBL?

Bagram is a ways away from Kabul, and they turned it over to the Afghans months ago if I'm not mistaken.

Never been to Afghanistan, I did the other pointless war, but I'd venture to guess even if they still had Bagram, they'd opt for the shorter flight over less enemy held territory to get to kabul intl, nevermind a ground convoy over taliban held roads, which was still an option early on in the not quite yet controlled kabul yesterday early AM. Situation would very likely be similar or worse outside the capitol if it was an option.

You’re gonna quote this absolute fuck nut hypocrite? This guy? Lol.

Not that I want to get into a debate, but Trump brought down the number of troops and started most of this. Biden is to blame for the time, but history will continue to remember Trump as the clown he is.

Dude is most definitely a hack, but he's not wrong. We absolutely got caught with our pants down on this, though I really don't see how the people in charge didn't even see this as a possibility.

Either way making this a dem/gop thing is dumb. We've had 20 years of essentially the same policy by both sides it was always gonna end this way whether we did it 15 years ago or 15 years from now, Biden just happened to be the one holding the bag of shit at the end. If you are gonna blame anyone blame dubya for setting the nation building policy in motion to begin with, anything else is futile partisan bullshit.

Drawing down troops and preparing for withdraw should have been done a decade ago if not sooner. The outcome would have been the same eventually. Nothing that happened in the past few weeks can be blamed on Trump unless you’re advocating for remaining in Afghanistan.

The only real reason someone can blame Biden is because at the end of the day he’s the commander and chief. This really falls on the generals and whatever other dumbass military commanders thought this method was best and told Biden as much.

Yeah I agree, Biden was given the shit bag at the end. But his intel agencies warned him, while telling the American people something completely different. Taliban taking over the country only helps the CCP (oil/land). Therefore making the US look weak.

thank you for admitting the Poso isn’t wrong.

Orange man bad! Everything is his fault. They tried impeaching him over a phone call and never worked. They might impeach Biden over this?

Mostly peaceful?

I'd be curious to find out what the actual assessment was he was given. Because going from "Afghanistan will stand and fight" to "kabul will hold for 3 to 6 months" last week to OH FUCK ITS SAIGON 2021 YALL in like 37 days is wild.

Anyone with half a brain new it was gonna come crashing down as soon as we left, but damn ya big league fuckups going on here for sure.

By all estimates, nothing says the Afghans shouldn’t have been able to hold out, but a lot of what I’m seeing is that they 1) were mostly involved with the government-sided forces for money, 2) didn’t really care or want to die for a corrupt Afghan government.

So as larger Taliban forces approached, they just joined up with them or surrendered as they were promised no retaliation and they didn’t see a point in dying for something they really don’t care about.

Taliban forces estimated at 75k motivated, equipped and ready dudes.

ANA forces on paper around 3.5 times that but in all likelihood probably the same size, before desertions and taliban sympathizers are taken into account, on top of your points.

You do the math. I don't know how we thought anything different was gonna happen.
