Cool they’ll just hire someone else in your place or reduce hours
Very profound statement. In the two years I’ve been at the facility, we’ve been down a body for just about 18 months. It takes them 6 months minimum to find someone (just one person) willing to come to our facility and once that person finally checks out, they’re gone within 3 months. I’m not just speaking from my ass either, this has happened twice since being here and the third time is on the horizon.

As for reducing hours.. ha. They force us to come in early and stay open late for aircraft who don’t want to land or depart when the facility isn’t open. Even with reduced staffing, we have fought for a change in schedule to accommodate and have been “put in our place” countless times. We do like 75 ops a day, there’s no reason to have 3 controllers at the facility at any given time. In the same breath, working two man days violates our CBA so what gives? We’ve been on six day work weeks since I got here lol

maybe they’ll just contract it out after you guys get fired and send the 1 other dude to Denver tower.

If you had any reading comprehension skills, you’d already know we are a contract facility. I digress.
He already is contract lol
I admittedly didn’t read most of the post. Maybe they’ll just pull the contract and close the tower. 75 ops a day doesn’t need one anyway. Good luck finding another job lol.

They’ll also not pull the contract either. Only airport on a Caribbean island. American doesn’t want to fly in/out without a manned tower as I suspect would be the same with Delta and Spirit. Removing the facility would be a devastating blow to the local economy, especially while the airport is undergoing a multi-million dollar facelift. But it’s all speculation at this point. As for me? I don’t need the job and have contingencies in place if/when it’s my turn to meet my maker figuratively. I’m out one way or another within the next few months, might as well go down with the ship.

It might be hard to hear, but the FAA doesn't care about your facility

Any airport that only does 75 ops per day will run the same with or without a tower
My tower did 400-500 a day pre Covid and the FAA doesn’t give a shit about us lol.

Delta and Alaska flies into islands with Alaska without a tower with way more than 75 ops

If we’re going to split hairs, I said I suspect the same with Delta and Spirit as their flights are midday so it’s never an issue. As for American and the Hurricane Hunters, we have an LOA with both of them stating that we have to open early or remain open late in the event that they have flights in or out outside of normal working hours.
