Hello,

Ive been in the tier 2 process for a good amount of time and finally had my tier 2 eval in June followed by a class 2 eval in august. I was told everything went well, and id assume it did since they've since requested more documents such as my dd214 and other documents.

I also haven't been able to obtain a class2 since this whole process started. They connected my class 2 to my tier 2 due to me being on antidepressants before I joined the air force over 10 years ago. Haven't used or had any need for them since.

Theres an faa tower near my home thats low manned that I was thinking about applying to and had two main questions.

1) im only certified in radar but am very eager to work in a tower or dual facility to obtain my cto. Will I be considered if I reach out to the ATM?

2) I didnt get a class2 pass or fail in August since it was with my FAA application. I was thinking about paying out of pocket and setting up another class 2 appointment since ive had my tier2 eval, maybe it will pass. Should I do this before reaching out to any ATM?

I know that was a lot of info, thank you for taking the time to read through it all. I appreciate any insight in this matter.

I mean if you're in the tier 2 process then you're still in the hiring process and if you passed the tier 2 then they'll be continuing that process and get you scheduled for your medical again and stuff.

You could still reach out to the ATM of the facility give them your resume for them to forward to the district. The district is the one that makes the ultimate decision on whether you would qualify based on your previous ratings. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be for CTOs but I don't remember off the top of my head, but I'd still give the ATM my resume and make someone tell me no. Supposed to be level 9 and below towers or up/downs too.

Whether or not you have a class 2 when you apply they will still make you get a medical through the FAA so it doesn't matter. Now if you failed your tier 2 then it's gonna be a long hard process to try to get in at all.

ATO makes final decision for former mil hires. I’ve been seeing several cases of prior exp direct hire applicants dropping paperwork at the facility direct to the ATM, the ATM says yes hire them and the ATO says no. Hasn’t been happening for everyone but this unfortunately goes above the district. Which is dumb considering the amount of managers between an ATM and the ATO and they don’t let them make that call?

Yeah could definitely be approved above the district level. I just know the ATM forwards resumes up to the district and then the district HR reaches out to the applicant at some point. What happens between I don't really know but I do know the ATM doesn't make the call

Even for direct hire won’t you still need to pass the same background/medical? Direct hire isn’t a loophole around Tier 2
Yeah i didnt think it was. I was just told by the examiner in June that I passed the tier 2 follow up. I imagine the shutdown may be the reason I haven't heard anything since October though.

You should reach out to your HR POC because they haven't stopped hiring at all even during the shutdown

Honestly being in the job for awhile and if you are a veteran, there are better paying jobs with better benefits you can use your gi bill on then ATC. It's bs seeing trainees come into this job, waste their gi bill getting BAH to make up for the pay gap. Then wash out and not have that benefit to fall back on. Hope the best for you, but this job doesn't provide what it used to. Definitely keep your options open.

have you reached out to your HR person? I had an issue getting my medical and I didn’t even know it until I called to ask what the hold up was because aeromedical never bothered to notify me.
