Pre-employment Timelines

Good afternoon!

I was wondering, what are the timelines on completing the AT-SA, submitting your response to the TOL, and other timelines that may apply (medical, drug tests, Tier 2, etc)?

I'm about to separate from the AF in a few months and since I'm hoping to be in Afghanistan, I know I won't have access to do alot of these requirements and don't want to jeopardize a future with the FAA.

Have you already applied? Are you prior experience (ATC in military)?

The timeline varies greatly, but if you are applying OTS and haven't taken the ATSA, you won't have anything happen within the next few months since there isn't an OTS bid out yet. It takes a few months just to schedule the ATSA after applying to an open bid.

I applied for the 17-ATCEXP-52850 and have been on referred since November 2017 (chalking that one up as not hired).

And yes, I'm prior experience with ATC in the Air Force.

I'm debating whether or not I should apply for the previous experience bid that will be posting Monday March 19.

This mine currently. I’m in the 7/7/17 Bid. Currently waiting on medical to get to HR to get a class date.

  • Job Bid Opens: 7/7 to 7/14
  • Accepted to take ATSA: 9/27
  • Referred ATSA Status: 10/27
  • TOL: 12/27
  • EODS Forms: 1/12
  • EODS Forms Approved 1/22
  • CIL: 2/1
  • MMPI-2 Scheduled 2/2 for 2/7
  • Security Clearance Submitted 2/13
  • Medical Exam Recieved 2/13, 2/26
  • Drug Test 2/27
  • FOL (Final Offer Letter) ?
  • Class Date at Academy ?

Assuming you are selected, AT-SA about 3-4 months after applying, TOL about 2 months after AT-SA, then it can range anywhere from 3 months to years for medical/background clearance. Depends on your past and just pure luck of how fast they process your file. At least that's how it was for 2016 bid. For me, my class date was a year and 10 days after I took AT-SA.. I consider myself lucky.

You should man. When do you separate?

You’re at 98 days from separating then, so you should be good. The age for military controllers is 35 now for the FAA so hopefully it doesn’t take you 6 years to get hired.

Just read the previous Prior Experience Bid and they give you 15 months to meet all requirements after a tentative offer.

Definitely won't meet that timeline if I do Afghanistan.

From what I’ve heard from a lot of people I know who have done and are currently doing contracting out in the Middle East is that you can basically leave whenever you want or if you want you can take 2 or 3 weeks vacation after 6 months and they pay for your ticket back and forth. But you should verify and obviously it’s your life.

TOL(N90): 01/05
CIL: 03/08
EQIP: 3/08
MMPI: 3/16
DRUG TEST (SCHEDULED): 4/12
MEDICAL EXAM (SCHEDULED): 4/17

2 Questions....

1. No news is good news on the MMPI? Haven't recieved any results. 2. After everything is complete how long do you have to wait for a FOL, give or take? I'm separating from the Navy and trying to submit separation leave, I was just like to submit some supporting documentation along with. Call my HR rep?

Thanks!

I took the MMPI on February 21st and haven't heard anything else, so I take it as good news. I also completed my medical and drug test on March 19th. According to HR, they are still waiting for the Medical and Drug Test to clear to give me my FOL. It's a waiting game.

I've seen some in here say they got an FOL within a week or two after completing everything, but that hasn't happened with me so far.

Did you get one yet? I've completed everything and still nothing, going to try and call pam today and see if they recieved everything yet.

Between taking the MMPI and the second drug test six months later I received no word from the FAA. People told me that not hearing anything is good and that it means you passed everything.

Hope my timeline gives some insight to people waiting to hear. I just went about my life and career as usual in the meantime.

So I’ve been wondering about the process and understand that medical can take a while. I am active military and separate this October. I am referred on the last March prior exp bid, is there anything I should handle now to expedite the process? Like request copies of my medical records ASAP so I have them available sooner rather than request them later when I get my CIL and stuff? From what I’ve read online is the VA/mil can take a while releasing copies to you or Human Resources. Are they going to want physical SEALED copies?

Prior exp timeline - note security clearance was waived cause I was working contract tower at the time and had gotten one the year prior. I don’t think those usually are what holds people up though.

28 Dec 15 - applied
21 Jan 16 - 1st round of rolling bid closed
9 Feb 16 - Referral notification email
21 Mar 16 - TOL
25 Apr 16 - Clearance instruction letter
3 May 16 - MMPI-2 completed
6 May 16 - notification I was waived for security (prior clearance with FCT)
16 May 16 - contacted (by phone) by aerospace medicine to set up flight physical
24 May 16 - flight physical appointment
15 Jul 16 - medically cleared notification
4 Aug 16 - Facility list issued
9 Aug 16 - Facility issued/start date selected
16 Oct 16 - Effective date
17 Oct 16 - Report date

Hope this helps some of you.

I made a call to the Medical Records people on base and they said they would give me a digital copy of my records on a disk. Will HR/ the AME/ or whoever I have to turn it into accept that?
