The woeful unpreparedness of Management

So question, when a controller tests positive for the virus, is every other controller that he/she was around being quarantined? If not, the whole going ATC 0, ‘cleaning’ and reopening to business as usual is pointless. The majority of cases are human to human transfer, not surface to human.

Whats good for the FAA Administrator, is not good for the line controllers. This is a key question. It seems as though controllers are not eligible to "self quarantine" like Senators and other powerful people. 2nd class citizens, who knew! #BestJobinTheWorld

I asked my RVP on the telecon who the manager was that had the conversation with the Public Health Official, and was the union involved in the phone call. His responses were "I dont know," and "no." I asked him if a Public Health Official physically came to our tower ro view our working conditions before they made the decision that we did not have close enough contact with the afflicted individual to contract COVID-19 ourselves. He advised that the Public Health Official did not physically come to the tower. I asked how he could come to such a conclusion without seeing the tower for himself, and he told me that "we would have had to have spent 6 hours or more in confined quarters with the non-certified Tech Ops employee in order to contract the virus."

I asked him if he didnt think that it was a conflict of interest that the manager would convince the Public Health Official, who never physically showed up to our facility, that there was no controller contact with the "trainee" Tech Ops personnel and that the tower should stay open. He did not have an answer. Bury your heads in the sand and revisit the issue on a daily basis. Reactive not proactive. Collaborate me harder, daddy.

What are people's guesses on the additional non essential people being added today? All trainees? Seems like this is moving at a snails pace so I cant see more than one more category of people being added.

I say put all the controllers on excused leave and have every management official stay at work and work traffic.

I doubt theyll allow CPCs off. The typical scammers will get off, but that's still good the less at the facilities the better.

Problem is no one is on leave now because there is nowhere to go, and all the typical detail scams and NATCA scams are cancelled, so in many cases you still have MORE ppl in the facilities w just CPCS. They need to go minimum staffing (w the caveat that ppl may well work over 2 hours TOP etc, but this is an emergency) and let the Facreps delegate who works when and keep a tally to make it as fair/equitable as practical. Will there be whiny complaining bitches? Obviously. fuck em.

Lol annnnnd it just came out. No CPCs off. #NotImpressed it will be fun working w 15 CPCs. How special it is to be a CPC and keep your medical!! Can be exposed to pandemics. #BestJobinTheWorld

Brothers and Sisters,

In response to the changing landscape associated with the COVID-19 national emergency, the following is updated guidance related to the release of non-essential employees:

The following guidance is effective immediately:

In consultation with NATCA, the Agency has determined that for the duration of the COVID-19 national emergency, the following employees in FAA air traffic control facilities are deemed non-essential and will be placed on excused absence:

· Tower: employees not certified on local or ground control.

· Tower/Approach (Up/Down): employees not certified on the above referenced positions in either the Tower or the Approach Control.

· Approach Control: employees not certified on a radar position.

· En Route: employees not certified on any radar (R-side) position.”

Lol didn't even change for my facility.

Tower: employees not certified on local or ground.

Up/down: employees not certified on positions referenced for tower or approach

Approach: employees not certified on a radar position

Center: employees not certified on any R-sides

Plus a list of pre-diagnosed conditions that you have to self report to your ATM who will verify with the flight surgeon
