The irony the sweet sweet irony

id rather have ammo and fishing tackle than TOFU and Soy from JeffBezosAmazonWholeFoods anyway

I like to think Mr. Curry is smiling cuz he sees that hoop and is thinking about dunking over Fauci with his beanbag all up in his face.

its amazing how they can just super casually be like... o yeah that whole no mask thing... we lied! people roll their eyes when others question authority and automatically talk about tin foil hat, but you cant EVER trust what that little old man says ever again. credibly burned. now hes fear mongering @ the NFL. it will never end

Heard it from a friend who, heard it from a friend who, says mid-July is virtual lock for Zoom training which doesn't actually count towards the training its more of a "refresher" and he said something like 6 months til they think they'll be back in the building. I have a call tomorrow for an update so I guess we will see.

hmmm... so no REAL OJTI all year? or is this Academy ppl only you are talking about w the 6 more months

So as an AG who’s been at home for a few months now, I wanted to share a different take from that of the CPCs here saying “screw those trainees”.

I grew up in upstate New York, so when I applied to an open bid a few years ago the geography experts at the FAA saw NY and decided to send me to N90 despite the fact that I lived 7 hours from there. I had no choice in the matter. I spent 18 months at N90 stuffing flight strips and was finally about to start training when covid hit and shut everything down. Before covid, the absolute best case scenario for me would be getting a raise to D1 after more than 2 years in the building. Now I’d be surprised if it’s less than 3 from the day I arrived before I see D1, and at least another year after that before I could make CPC. And that’s assuming I don’t wash out and get terminated or get sent halfway across the country.

My wife and I know that we want kids, but when I started with the FAA we agreed that we should wait until I’ve certified so I’m not distracted in training. When I got to N90 and learned about the long training delay, we decided that we’d just have to wait a bit longer than we had hoped. To be frank, raising a kid on AG salary in New York just isn’t feasible for us. My paycheck works out to about $1300 take-home every 2 weeks, and $1100 per month goes straight to rent for a crappy 1-bedroom apartment. Since the pandemic, my wife has had to take a large pay cut and I’m not receiving any differentials or holiday pay or anything, so we’re spread even thinner than before.

Now here’s the thing: I know I’m crazy lucky to still have a job at all, not to mention not even having to go into work. I know a ton of other people who would kill to be in this spot. But that doesn’t make it any easier to continue to delay starting a family, buying a house, and having to live paycheck to paycheck well into my thirties. And that's not to mention the lost opportunity from many years of missed raises, lower TSP contributions, and so on. I know this isn’t anyone’s fault, and I know bringing us back right now isn’t a smart option - I absolutely don’t want to risk the health of anyone at work unnecessarily, and there’s no traffic to train on anyway. But spare a thought for the many of us who would MUCH rather be at work right now working toward our raises and job security instead of spending years and years in underpaid limbo.

Im sure you are very aware that N90 is more or less a career death sentence to the majority of people who apply on an open bid. Really good way to get your foot in the door, bad way to achieve life clarity and stability, as washout hangs over your head for many years and merciless pass/fail checkrides. This pandemic has only made it worse and prolonged what is likely inevitable. For me personally I would rather resign and go live your life than let a place like N90 suck your soul out.

Thought spared.
I feel far more concern for the 5 other shitty elements of your situation than the postponement due to COVID. For you I'm sure it's just another layer of shit piled on that exasperates everything.

My sympathies in order from most to least:
1. You live in a high cost of living area, you are not compensated enough to appropriately sustain.
2. You have been working 18 months with no training beyond data.
3. You work at N90
4. You work at N90
5. You work at N90
6. Your training postponed further due to COVID.

Welcome to the Hotel Del N90... such a lovely place, such a lovely place

its amazing how they can just super casually be like... o yeah that whole no mask thing... we lied!

They originally said that people shouldn't be wearing N95 masks, because 1) they needed to save those for healthcare workers and 2) they don't do much to protect you if you haven't had proper training on how to wear them. After looking at the data from other countries, now they're saying you should wear normal surgical masks when you're out to protect others in case you have it unknowingly. But I suppose "changing positions based on evidence" is too difficult a concept for some people.

Yeah I love how people think its an own to admit you were wrong and say "hey do this now!" There was time that they weren't sure if this virus was transmissible between people. If this pandemic were a baseball game we're in the second inning. There will be a lot more changes to the information we are getting because we know so little right now. People recommending certain actions based on the best available information and then changing it as new information comes out is not nefarious.

This goes all the way to John Kerry being called a flip flopper. Now no one in America can legally change their position under any circumstances no matter what.

The media has just devolved to the point where their main news highlights are just videos of assholes and then people talking about why you're better than them. First it was North Korea, then it was Russia, then it was Iran, then it was Trump, then it was the haircut protesters, then it was cops, then it was looters/rioters, then it was cops, then it was racists, then it was white people who had opinions, then it was racists, now it's cops again. No wonder we are all going insane, every time you open the internet you get bombarded with "LOOK AT THIS GUY" and it just cycles repeatedly.

I wish we could just go back to working planes and drinking with the boys after work

its way worse than that. they admitted they purposely lied because of concerns about supply.
I’ve never seen anything that didn’t clearly lay out that n95s were the best protection but not to try to get them because front line people needed them.

Well the feds took so many we can restart training with the stolen n95s

But they lied for good reason! the frontline healthcare workers needed them more!

ahhhh teh good old deny, backpedal and deflect, the trumper way!!!!

They just bitch about everything, its ok they have a bunch of paid free time on their hands
I was a sector away from a $25,000 raise with a baby on the way that we had timed to go right in line with my certifications based on how I was doing. But ya, yay for free time..

The vast majority of the trainees that I know and work with want nothing more to go back to work and earn our paycheck. We’re bitching because it took 3 months to hear anything at all, and what we're being told is some zoom class that will be nothing more than glorified babysitting.
