Y’all must work at carrier hubs or at centers cuz our 5 up/down has been banging for weeks. Nice weather and we’re just as busy as the last couple June’s.

Yeah it’s been pretty well understood that the most affected towers are the aspm 77 and the high center sectors. Falcon and deer valley are still crazy houses.. for now, looks like Arizona might be swallowed by corona soon.

What did the email say?

A similar message is also being sent to ATM's for distribution to all employees on excused absence, including operational managers and operational supervisors:

This message is a reminder that employees on excused absence as a result of the COVID-19 national emergency are subject to recall. We have recently learned of instances of employees on excused absence being beyond commuting distance of their facility during the period of excused absence.

The Parties at the national level collaboratively agreed, for the sake of employee health and safety, to place non-essential and high-risk employees on excused absence. In addition, and for the health and safety of employees, the Parties implemented COVID-19 Flexible Schedules, which provides the lowest number of employees on a shift to meet traffic demands, while having as many employees as possible out of the facility. These initiatives represent a good faith effort by both Parties to maximize social distancing and reduce workplace transmission of COVID-19 while balancing the needs of the National Airspace System (NAS).

We are using this opportunity to not only remind employees that you are subject to recall while on excused absence, but that you are expected to be within a reasonable commuting distance of your duty location and be prepared for duty during the time you are on excused absence. Failure to comply with these expectations may result in disciplinary action.

We are asking you to commit to taking the responsibility of excused absence seriously, and not to jeopardize the collaborative agreements we have in place. These agreements are important to the health and safety of all employees and the continued operation of the NAS.

In Solidarity,

NATCA National Executive Board

I dont believe this line. There is already precedent for not disciplining ppl who don't show up when recalled, hence the angry emails. Would be weird to selectively jam up one controller, and not very in solidarity! What is probably inevitable is this will be a main catalyst for ending the excused days off and going to a more normy schedule

Yup. A few screw it for all!

Doesn't seem like a really recent development, just finally communicated via email. Basically lines up with what I mentioned from telecons last week about being expected to be available for recall and within a reasonable commute distance while on Excused Absence.

I don't consider my own home to be within "commuting distance" from work. I drive that distance because I'm certifiably insane.

Also, who TF is being called in for same day ops? Or getting a call at 9P.M to be at work by 7A.M?
Short of that, it doesn't take more than 5-6 hours to fly across the country. Are people in the Caribbean or South Pacific or something?

I mean there’s zero structure to it. If we are on a reserve shift it should be clear what time you are on and when you are off and what your “off” days are. We have rest requirements. And drinking requirements.

at an airline if your on reserve it’s a berry specific set of hours.

I have one buddy (at a different facility) who posted a vid of him drunk on the beach 1000 miles from his facility, in the middle of the week. And he has “works at FAA” at the top of his profile. That’s probably what they’re talking about.

Just talked to ppl from a couple different facilities who both told me trainees are coming back within a couple weeks, because if not they were threatening to furlough them. mnsalty had good instincts on this. I 100% believe this is fact.
That sounds like those guys probably read this thread and just repeated that rumor back to you.

The Motherland Calls...

it’s all fun and games until it actually happens.

its a weird phenomena how ppl refuse to accept something that doesn't fit their mental model, and it almost takes on a life of its own of defiance. Ive found the same thing when trying to talk about the potential for Covid to be man made/lab, it just gets shut down hard and laughed at. Even though its probably the most likely thing.
