FAA preemployment roadblocks

Hey all, I got out of the Marines last year in November and accepted a TOL then. Here I am, still struggling through the pre employment process. I feel like it’s been one thing after another getting paperwork and everything they need. Is anyone else having a hard time getting their military and personal records sent to the FAA? I’ve requested it, many times and so hasn’t my VA VSO and still to no avail. Any advice? I only have radar experience, (Data, finals, arrival, approach and enroute(below fl240). Is there any other options becides the FAA? I don’t want to wait to long and then loose being out of practice. Thanks for the help!

No matter where you go you are going to be re trained the faa way.

The VA does what the VA does, and that's move at a snails pace. From personal experience, FAA has no special route to make them go faster. Both times I've requested records its taken ~11months.

I have all of my VA records. VA actually has been great. I’ve been trying to get my records from the national record center and it’s been a no answer or anything

The FAA is worth the wait, trust me. For the job security alone, as this past year has proven, is leaps and bounds beyond anything else you will find in ATC. NAV Canada/NATS/ New Zealand have all laid off trainees. It is worth the wait, just be patient and maybe pick up some GS-5/6/7/ whatever job on the side while you wait.

That’s what I’m trying to do, but haven’t had much luck finding a decent job that lasts in between. I’d love to work for the FAA, don’t get me wrong. Any advice on where to find some of those GS jobs? I’ve been looking on USAJOBS but no luck so far

If it's just you then use the GI Bill and pick up a work-study gig. Let those float you through until you get hired, depending on where you are BAH, Grants, and Work-study income is more than enough.

USAJOBS, you can sort by open date/pay grade/ etc... Honestly if you are not super picky or in a sparse location and willing to move there are quite a few.

Also do not limit yourself by agency, the VA usually has a few postings. You can save a search to get emails every time a position opens. One more thing, use the USAJOBS Resume builder. Yes it is a pain the first time you put something in but do not listen to anyone who has used their own. The system that scans resumes is designed and integrated for the USAJOBS resume builder. Copy/Paste your descriptions in, pay attention to the wording on each announcement you apply for, retool your resume by adding in new descriptions that are in individual job announcements. You will be surprised how much stuff you have done without realising it.

Will the FAA always request military records for pre-employment? Is there a way to get ahead of the game by like pre-ordering these? All I have is tinnitus in my right ear

Yes! Request a copy of your medical records be placed on a disk right before separation. Your clinic should do that for you. Go to whatever your branches personnel office is to get your career records. Don't wait around for them to be "sent". That's a long wait.

Oh uhh... I've already separated. I think I asked for that but they were like nah and just emailed me the files instead. I have the files, but it kinda doesn't seem like "sealed" or "official" to me lol.

edit: I just checked the email. It has like the file names and size and a SHA-256 checksum. I haven't altered the files at all but I have several copies of them on my computer and in the cloud. The download link has since expired so yeah

They'll want my career records too?

I've been waiting on my appointment SF-50 from the National Records Center since the end of August. Haven't heard anything either. When did you request your records?

Don't know why but they asked me for mine. And did they all for sealed or official? I just gave them my copies that I had.

Was this from previously working for the faa and trying to be rehired? I called my old region and they sent me all my SF50s by snail mail.

No, not at all. This would be my first time working for them

For me yes, but I was only with them at the Academy before resigning. I have my separation SF-50.

The MMAC falls under AEA/Eastern for 2152 trainees right?

Just my medical records. I think I have my personnel file somewhere but there's really nothing notable in it and I didn't even turn it in (it wasn't requested) to my last command when I checked in anyway
