Cell phone charging station

It’s in the contract
Must be nice at a “Z” where you get cafeterias, charging stations and daycare. Contract does not guarantee electric charging. It says:

ARTICLE 121
ELECTRIC VEHICLE SUPPLY EQUIPMENT (EVSE)
Section 1. Within one hundred eighty (180) days of the signing of this Agreement, the Union and Agency shall establish a workgroup to study the feasibility of providing Level 2 (240v AC) charging receptacles and/or allowing the use of 110/120v AC electrical receptacles for plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) charging units for bargaining unit employees to use at work on a reimbursable basis consistent with 42 USC 6364.

Out of four facilities, none had charging stations for EVs.

At my tower we were able to tap into a 240 outlet that was on the side of the building so we basically were getting free level 2 charging until management yelled at us.

See can’t do this at a Z. The roving security will pepper spray you.

Yeah the discussion becomes about the gov't owning the electricity. SCT and other facilities have large solar panels in the parking lots, and the hope was to use that juice to charge cars, but nope FAA gonna FAA and have a problem with that. That said, I believe they did pay for the panels so they get to decide where the proceeds go.

My last fac had the little charging lockers individually assigned with keys that had USB ports in them. You provide your own cable. I liked these.

My current fac has the stations with the attached cords and a small shelf. Don't do those. People break the cords and then you have a cool phone shelf that maybe charges your phone at a slightly higher rate than zero if you prop it up juuuust right.

Which is weird because they fully agree in the CBA to provide outlets and electricity for engine block heaters in cold weather climates; granted that is substantially less electricity.

But that’s good old American oil! And they pay for bus passes. I bet Tesla would install super chargers at a big enough facility

Level 2 charger hardware only costs about $500 each before installation; seems like a larger facility's NATCA could take care of a half dozen charge stations to prove its worthwhile-ness.

At my Kilo we can park in the terminals and use the level 2 chargers there. Much easier to find the free juice on a swing shift or weekend since the airport staff ppl I assume take the spots in the morning. The closest chargers are maybe a 7 min walk to the gate versus 1 min, but not a bad solution. A lot of the EV drivers will shuffle one another’s cars around throughout the shift too so everyone can top up. Probably 1/4 of the controllers drive Teslas.

And almost every electric vehicle owner uses these same outlets to charge their cars in those facilities.
