Election Spending

Food for thought. Election spending. Anyone can truly run.

So I went through some of my numbers for election spending, if anyone is curious. I visited a total of 12 facilities (P50, PHX, JAX, ZJX, MCO, F11, ZNY, N90, ZBW, ZDV, D01 and lastly ZID*

For total airfare, I spent around the equivalent of $1200, reality was only about $400 cash due to southwest points, and the fact that I was in Arizona for my daughter’s gymnastics meet.

For hotels, equivalent was around $1000, but really only about $200 cash due to hotel points.

Rental cars / tolls cost me about $300 actual cash, but my electric car gets free charging, so New York was cheap. Fuck those tolls though.

Email and web site services were about $300 total, I sent 2 emails, though I could have sent more via my service. Web hosting and domain names are not very expensive in reality. There are lots of great domains out there.

Then food and stuff, for maybe $500. That jerk Valland from ZDV did buy me beer and save me some money. He is aging way better than I am. It pains me to say that.

Anyway, I’d say I was out maybe 3300$ish cash equivalents, but I hadn’t intended to go to ZID till there was an election violation, so I easily could have saved $800ish there, as votes were pretty much in.

I got 1213 votes, so at most I spent less than $3 a vote running a campaign completely by myself.

I talked to Redmond, and he was very similar or slightly less. He’s probably pretty close to $2 a vote, but in fairness he cooks a mean hamburger where Rich and I got Pizza. ( I still hate pineapple)

As for the other campaigns, it is debatable.

Rich obviously spent less than NDJH as he only sent flyers to the facilities, and his travel was less.

Full disclosure, he did crash in my hotel room during the ZID visit as everything was messed up with the cloudflare thing that time so he saved a few bucks… Also don’t go to ZID during a nascar race if you need a cheap hotel.

But in reality I peg him at less than 10k for 2400 votes. So maybe $4 a vote at worst. I’m probably overly aggressive on that one.

Mick I don’t think travelled too much; he didn’t send out flyers, but he did go to ZID and a few other places, so maybe max 5k? I don’t know: So maybe one of the most efficient at $2ish a vote. Prolly similar to Mike.

As for NDJH, with 200 facilities visited and rental cars / hotels and airfare, as well as sending stickers and flyers to facilities, and individual post cards to every member (cha-Ching!), I peg them at $50k in equivalents. However since they were a team, and each got roughly 2400 votes each, I’d say $10 a vote or so.

What’s this mean? Nothing! Except anyone can run, and I encourage everyone to run the next round. RVP races can be even cheaper!

I could have visited less facilities, sent more emails and got a zoom service and still been well under $2k if I so desired.

We are in a digital age, the travel is unnecessary at some levels.

Then again, I lost, so what do I know. I enjoyed meeting many of you though. Even those characters at N90, who bought me pizza-

Oh look NDJH being fiscally irresponsible when everyone else acts like adults.

Ah an excellent question. Even in the past “training” stops have doubled as campaign stops once the allotted time is up. I would be curious as well how many line up hand in hand.
Brother I always admire the diplomacy you bring to this forum. But I will just say it for you on this one: Our Union is made up of a bunch of frivolous politicians at high level facilities who don’t care about anyone but themselves. If I was wrong, official time wouldn’t be such a showstopper on its own with opening the contract.

For what it is worth, I always try to speak in "good faith" without an agenda and approach things from a logical perspective. Sadly I must concur and deep down I know it to be true.
