DOD Facility List

I have a list of facilities, doesn’t distinguish if it’s staffed by military or not.

I thought I had a list too, but it ended up just being all FAA and the Federal contract towers. Doesn't have the military/dod facilities.

Has anyone ever made a list, or have one now? Would like to know what DoD facilities exist and their staffing. And who you have to know to get hired.

Just start searching USAJobs and adding as they go.
The who to know is the challenging part

You don’t know the right people so don’t bother applying
I didn’t know any of the right people when I first got hired into the DOD. In fact, I got hired by a different branch than the one I served in. While there is some truth to “knowing the right people helps,” saying that’s an absolute requirement is not true and may lead folks to miss good opportunities.

Yes and I want those good opportunities

One thing I would recommend: if you have a particular desired spot/location with one of the military branches, be willing to apply to and accept a different spot/location with that same branch to get your foot in the door. I think movement between locations within a particular military branch is easier once you’re established in their system.

This seems the only way. I would also like to know how many people certain facilities actually have on board/can hire. le sigh.
Ill get you started with what I know from the ANG:
JST (PA)
CYS (WY)
AEX (LA)
PSM (NH)
LMT (OR)
MEI (MS) (maybe? I know the Mississippi unit controls A tower in meridian)
VUJ(NC)
MMT(SC)
JRF (HI)
STJ (MO)

Separate, but have ATC, still ANG but are CRTCs, so different mission.
VOK (WI)
APN (MI)
MTC (MI)

As for numbers, good luck. All the above are dependent on the facilities, etc.
For example, CYS has 16 full time controllers, 6 of which are title 5s, the remainder are t32s. Then CYS also has AGRs, an ATM, and 2 CCTLRs. CYS is a up/down facility with operating hours from 0600-2200. Some of the facilities above are tower only, some *used* to run a GCA, but i believe theyre all going away from that, with not much knowledge of what the future holds in the form of RADAR for them.
This starts you down the path. You'd still have to find Marine, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Army National Guard (good luck) facilities.

Is there a list of facilities that are DOD? Or ones that have DOD controller spots?

^This post has a file from 2018 that showed all military atc facilities at that time that the FAA considers for prior experience. It includes national guard and reserve bases.

Are these DoW towers now
They certainly were when we went so long without paychecks during the shutdown. I think that’s how you make the distinction: If DOD, you get paid on time. If DOW, it’s hit or miss as to whether you get paid on time.

pro tip: if you don’t know someone get to know them, show up for a tour and bring pizza. 100% of the FAA folks that have showed up here with pizza have been hired. Causation or correlation? Idk but a pizza never hurt.

What if I send pizza? The FAA doesn’t give me enough time off to do any tours

You can add MAAF or KRYM to the list. We fall under the MNARNG but are title 5 and getting good time. There are five of us here, one sup, and that's about it. Its not bad if you're into the Midwest or Lyme disease, but otherwise this place should have been a CTAF. We spend the better part of our days playing on our phones and wondering why we couldn't get a fence around the airport.

We're losing one in June and I'm itching to leave because I'm bored AF here and it just really sucks to be single in MN if you're not from MN. The best way to meet and make friends in this state is to have gone to high school here...

I'd give a tour if someone brought me pizza.

When I was trying to come over from the FAA, I kept losing out on opportunities with the Air Force, so I called their HR just to ask if I was doing something wrong. I was told I kept falling under military spouses, so I joked with her that I didn't need to rewrite the resume but needed to download Tinder. She laughed and didn't say no.

Best way to get there is to fall under that umbrella. There's a law or EO that requires places to hire military spouses first if they are qualified for the job. Well, that's my understanding, but I reserve the right to be wrong.
