FAA to DoD back to FAA

Does anyone have any experience with going from FAA to DoD facility and then back to an FAA facility?

Is there save pay FAA to DoD and/or DoD back to FAA?

Going back to FAA, do you have to apply to prior experience bid? How is new FAA facility determined coming back from DoD?

I'm FAA to DoD with no interest in going back at the moment, never served in the military. I might go back some day but I'm waiting to see what happens.

Save pay works both ways. DoD to FAA save pay is spelled out in the CBA; If I went back to FAA I'd start at the bottom of the CPC band or current basic pay plus locality, whichever is higher. FAA to DoD is simple. You'll keep Basic pay with the new locality (which should be SSR at 35% at tower only facs or 40% at RAPCONs. Except I think Marines are still on the old 25% and 30% respectively, not sure...)

As far as determining what fac levels you'll get on a prior exp list, expect 7 max, maybe a few 8s. The longer you spend at DoD facs the higher the levels on your prior experience list will be, but not much. Let me know if you have more questions. I went DoD after reading about GolfCharlie's experiences and have no regrets. Trying to get overseas but I'm happy where I am.

The level 7 max would only be if you were at a level 7 or below prior though right?

Yeah that's not a hard cap or anything, I just mean that's what you can expect based on what I've seen on lists from people with terminal experience which is typically in that range. I haven't heard of anyone form a center or high level TRACON going DoD then back to FAA. I've seen a couple lists with 10s for people with decades of experience at places like Eglin in the DoD.

That’s not entirely true, there was someone on here a few bids ago who mentioned they were prior FAA lvl 5 up/down with a few contract towers and were offered 8/9s on their list.
