En Route 04/16/2020

My husband was supposed to be in this class. Wondering what’s going to happen.

I think we are going to accept it too, just nervous that they said it’s pass/fail. But it sounds like we should do it

When I asked if it was pass or fail she told me she had no idea and didnt have really any information on how it was going to be considering they have never had to do this before. I'm hoping we'll be able to keep in touch and have online study groups to help each other out!

The online is basics right? If we pass basics we go to OKC to learn other things?

Yes, it sounds like they are doing basics online and normally if you pass basics then you will continue onto your initial training in OKC at the academy. In other words "across the street". But it also sounds like they don't know if they're grading the online basics as "pass/fail" being that this is the first time they are doing all this and it sounds like a trial class? It will be interesting to see the result of this!

pilot classes normally wouldn't be graded pass/fail.
Kinda? I mean the equivalent would be the written test at the end of studying the basics of aeronautics and they are definitely pass fail at 70%, but it's not like if you fail it then you're done see ya later...you have to wait a bit to take it again after studying some more. I doubt that would work with ATC though, your training flows are a little more rigid.

They’ve already done the e learning test class. It was a disaster but they did it.

Basics would be tough online cus you’d go so far down the shitter learning navaid service reception and other worm holes.

That's not that hard. This is the second reference I've seen regarding navaid reception. It's just rote memorization that you could knock out in a couple days with some flashcards and a study partner. Pilot side does it all the time with online and DVD courses from King and Sportys. Any idiot can be a pilot, but ATC candidates are screened. If anyone is on the struggle bus with these subjects, they're not taking is seriously just because it's called 'basics.'

You haven’t been to basics. It’s so dry. But the test is government tricky. It’s helpful to have an instructor telling you what to focus on

I dont think you get another chance. "Your required initial training is evaluated on a pass/fail basis. Failure to successfully complete the required training and evaluations will result in termination of your FAA employment and may not be selected for future Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) positions." Was in my FOL. Or is that not pertaining to basics but the actual ATC training?
