This experience must have provided a comprehensive knowledge of appropriate air traffic control laws, rules and regulations. In addition, the Flight Services Station (FSS) specialization requires judgment to select only essential and pertinent information from a great mass of data; skill to present essential information to pilots clearly, concisely, and quickly before or during flight; and ability to act decisively in emergency situations. Such experience is typically demonstrated by accomplishment of assignments of the difficulty and responsibility described in the position classification standard used to evaluate positions at the next lower grade/pay band level (AT-AC) to include appropriate OJT. Qualification requirements must be met by time of submission of package and candidates must submit required documents which demonstrate applicable qualification requirements are met.

Any idea if they are planning on opening a trainee bid for the FSS in Alaska any time soon?
I think it depends on how many apply to this experienced bid. My guess is that an off-the-street bid would be AT LEAST a year out.
But we're gearing up to take some responsibilities from the lower 48 FSS, which means we will need even more people, so they're working on upping the budget for that.
I recommend going to usajobs and setting up a reminder, because once an off-the-street bid posts, it's usually only open for one or two weeks.
