I had emailed security, medical, and HR POC few days ago and received emails from all 3 of them this Friday morning. It’s confirmed I’m joining the Tier II club. This is what I get for analyzing the questions too much. :/

The system will be down until Monday.

How do you get reimbursed for the baggage?

15 days after you start in OKC you’ll sit down with someone from travel and they’ll process your baggage, Ubers to and from the airport on both ends, housing and food per diem for the first 2 weeks, and any other reimbursable expense you may have incurred. You will need to provide receipts, so make sure to save the ones from when you check your bags, but they'll pay whatever your airline of choice charges. They will NOT, however, pay for overweight baggage fees - just the standard cost for 2 checked bags.

Thanks for that . Keep food receipts too?

Finally heard back from POC last night, apparently they’re just waiting on medical. My medical exam only took 15 mins and the Doc. assured me “everything looks great, you easily passed”, so I assume they’re just waiting on MMPI results. I took mine on 3/26. Anyone who took it around the same time receive results yet? It sounds like 2-3 weeks is pretty typical.

The doctor that you see does not make the final determination. All the paperwork must be sent to the regional flight surgeon who will review it when time permits.

No, there are no receipts needed for the food per diem, you'll get the full value per day regardless of what you spend. The housing per diem also gets paid out in full as long as you have a receipt, even if the receipt is less than the allowance. People at Kim's for example only pay $39 per day, but the FAA will still give you the full $57 per day regardless. Only direct flight-related expenses (baggage and ubers) are reimbursed to the actual amount.

How much up front costs for people is typical to get by for the first little bit of the academy before you actually get your check and any per diem money?

MMPI seams to be at least 3 weeks. And like said above, medical is reviewed by your regional flight sergeon and not until your mmpi gets in will they be ready for review. Mine has been sitting on his desk so to speak for about 3 weeks now... so there’s that. Other regions seam to be less busy though

Depends on you. To be safe, figure a month in OKC before you see a dime from the government, although it'll usually be a bit sooner than that. So that's $1100-$1700 or more for your housing, plus whatever you spend on food and groceries, gas for your car, and any bills or expenses from home, plus a couple hundred of reimbursable travel expenses for the flight/drive to OKC.

If that's not possible, you can have the FAA bill your housing provider directly and then you're not responsible for the $1100-1700, although food and incidentals are still on your own until your per diem kicks in. On the down side, though, you don't get to keep any extra housing per diem (not important at places like Anatole that take the full per diem), and you miss out on credit card points or cash back or whatever, which can be very lucrative over 3-4 months. However someone mentioned earlier that you can switch off the FAA credit card in the middle of your stay, so you might be able to have the FAA pay for the first month or so then start paying yourself.

I took MMPI on 3/26 as well. Did you take it in SF?
