Hoping JAX or ZJX pick me up, are they popular?

I don't think JAX is very popular. I've heard at one time management was horrible, I'm not sure what it's like now.

I do not think they are popular, relatively speaking. Especially as compared to the rest of FL.
It is not a foregone conclusion that radar CPC's are picked before you if you network with the facreps and sell yourself / visit etc. You could definitively know where you stand by finding out from the facreps how many people have ERRs in for those places, how many of THOSE are eligible to lose people (it wont be a whole hell of a lot as we know), and where you stand on the ranking list. GL!

At my facility they help pick out who gets chosen which I'm assuming is common.

Facreps and ATMs usually collaborate on it. If its good/respected facrep , they have the pull to get you high up on the list. Some ATMs I think even let the facrep run it for all intents and purposes. OFC some facilities have de facto "We only take ppl from Level ____ & above" type policies. I know D10 for instance is pretty hardcore on who they'll take. Often its for a solid reason, like past success rates; but that has to really suck if its your dream facility and theyre shuting you out. the more highly desired a facility the more picky they can be though.

JAX I hear has a bad training program and traffic hard as hell for a 8. I always though Jacksonville Center would be paradise, high pay in low cost of living and in Florida, similar to the ZOB of the south. But I usually hear more bad then good things about that place too.

It’s a shit part of Florida. ZJX is like 40 min away from Jacksonville close to the Georgia border.
Have you toured JAX? I know a person that works there and another who washed. Both solid controllers. Training is a low success rate, complex and environment is toxic. Hopefully you’ve toured the place and know what your getting into.

I was supposed to go to ZJX before the sequestration hit in 2012 and I sat on a TOL and lost 2 years of potential seniority before I finally got a class date in 2014 (ended up going terminal route when the Academy started back up because the slots at ZJX didnt exist any more). I went and took a tour of ZJX...everyone who worked there said it was a country club, minus being literally in the middle of nowhere. I also toured JAX, and heard shitty things about the management there. Everyone there was salty as fuck that JAX TRACON "does more ops than 3 sectors at ZJX but cant get an upgrade." Tower there is a joke, I think they rarely top 200 ops a day. As far as the area is concerned, Amelia Island I'd fucking beautiful, it's about 45 mins to Hilliard from there. I would kill to live in that area, except my wife has an aversion to living by the beach for extremely cheap.
