I think I had the same instructor as OP. But I can say with confidence you're barking up the wrong tree, if so. If my instructor hadn't been hard on me at times, I wouldnt have passed, and that's a fact.
Was supposed to eval in August but ended up being deferred due to COVID. I'm no longer in his class though.Did OP graduate? Mike Charlie
I'm pretty sure he's on his way out anyway, which is a good thing. He's knows his shit, but doesn't seem to possess the desire or patience required to educate. I had some row instructors and A-leads that really drove that point home by contrast. I am sure he's not the last personality I've dealt with in this career, but I am also sure he is certainly among the worst of them.Hey just coming across this now but this sounds almost like my instructor to a T. I graduated academy in 2021 but if it’s the guy in thinking of, know someone in our class filed an EEO complaint against him (decision pending). And if it’s not the guy I’m thinking of, doesn’t matter, take all means necessary to improve the situation—direct communication with the instructor, bringing it up to management, ultimately filling complaint. And start putting things into writing.
Those guys are the ones with 4 kids and three divorces to pay for and didn’t plan well for retirement. It’s a rare instructor there that is there because they either enjoy the teaching or Oklahoma. Those guys don’t take academy jobs for fun. They are the few that enjoy training people who know nothing. This isn’t an easy job to learn from scratch but if this is overwhelming you probably won’t enjoy this job. Training gets much harder in the real world.

Probably the most accurate assessmentThose guys are the ones with 4 kids and three divorces to pay for and didn’t plan well for retirement. It’s a rare instructor there that is there because they either enjoy the teaching or Oklahoma.
This is true for about 70% of them but the other third or so really seemed passionate about the field, willing to work after normal retirement age and move to OKC to essentially dedicate their life to the cause. Those guys are the ones with 4 kids and three divorces to pay for and didn’t plan well for retirement. This is pretty spot-on.Those guys are the ones with 4 kids and three divorces to pay for and didn’t plan well for retirement. It’s a rare instructor there that is there because they either enjoy the teaching or Oklahoma.
I'd cut a guy working live traffic a lot more slack knowing that the 10% pay differential isn't exactly worth answering my stupid questions. I don't expect things to improve at the facility. This instructor is paid to be an instructor, however, which is a damned shame, seeing as it would seem he doesn't have much desire to do it.Dude u shouldn't be so sure of anything, u don't know shit yet. The guys probably an asshole, and there are a handful of assholes at every facility. Some facilities have dozens of assholes. most people like the assholes. The assholes usually know how yo work traffic. They keep shit interesting and put rogue management in check. No one likes a crybaby butthurt trainee on the other hand. Exce0t the other crybaby trainees waiting for Nest placement to Alaska. The last thing I'd do in your situation is publish your feelings on the most popular ATC forum in the country. You are the reaso. people get burnt out training. Not worth it. Too much drama.
Prepare to be shocked when the old crusty trainers at your facility end up in love triangles w the same trainees you see getting preferential treatment at the Academy.
Alright I gotta know, who is it? You can use initials or DM me, I don't care. Curiosity finally got to me.I'm pretty sure he's on his way out anyway, which is a good thing.
