NEST List Please Advise

Damn, what a list!!! What’s your PAC contribution like?? When I went through the NEST in 2014, it was APC, SCK and JNU lol….

Best job in the world, hope it worked out for you overall.

Haha, I did increase my contribution early on and phone-banked almost daily during COVID. Not sure it changed anything but regardless, NATCA has always been there for me.

Fun fact Columbus is actually the biggest city in Ohio by population, more people than Cleveland and Cincinnati combined. It's 2nd only to Chicago in the midwest.
Misleading information. Columbus is also the largest geographically. If count the total population of the service area(suburbs). Cleveland and Columbus are virtually the same.
Never argue with a dude named Corn about the Midwest….
Is this actually true or is this just like some quark with city limits and suburbs?
Definitely skewed because of city limits. Both Cleveland and Cincy proper are around 75 square miles, Columbus proper is almost 3x as large at about 220. When you compare the MSA (metropolitan statistical area) of all of them they are almost identical in size (ranked 30, 32, and 34 nationally).

The true tale of the tape is when you look at CSA (combined statistical area) and Cleveland pulls away from both of them with almost 50% more in population than Columbus and Cincy. When it comes to the Midwest: Chicago is still king (just under 10m), Detroit is still the clear number 2 (5.5m), then Minneapolis (4m) and Cleveland (3.6m) round out the largest distinct numbers. St. Louis, Columbus, Kansas City, Indy, and Cincy are all similar in size (2.5-3m) after that.

Look I don't work for city-data.com or anything...

I had just never been to Columbus until about 6 months ago. I looked up some info about the area and it said it was the biggest city in Ohio by population and had surpassed Indy.

It was interesting and surprising to me because I believed places like Cleveland and Cincinnati, who have things like pro sports teams for example would have to have been the bigger cities. I thought Columbus was more of a Toledo.

Yeah population density based on the geographic size is definitely a thing.

I read that in a dismissive tone and about fell out of my chair lmao.

Columbus is a great town overall, I just wouldn't want to be surrounded by that many Buckeyes on the regular. I think 30 years ago it was very similar to Toledo, but it really has exploded in growth since 2000 or so; I would guess because of concentration of political power since it is the capital and the trend of college graduates staying in their college-towns after graduating really contributed to it becoming as large as it is today.

If you’re not from ohio, why would you want to live there. Looking at crime rates, CLE,CMH and CVG are all mini Chicago's. I'd pass on any of those facilities for a warm weather facility that will eventually be a 9 like CHS or a place like SAV.
I get the weather thing but crime rates lol, it’s not like controllers in those low cost of living areas would be living in the ghetto. That reminds me of when Marvin Lewis said he was happy he was passed over for a head coaching job because he read the public schools in that city suck (his kids would have went to private school with his $4 million a year salary and being semi-famous).

Any reason to avoid ITO? It was high on my list considering Hawaii and all.

Also heard good things about FSD and SBA. List is a blessing. Thank you for your response.
Living in Hawaii is something that sounds great until you get there and realize you want to be back on the mainland. You'll spend years trying. But, if you know what living in hawaii, especially the big island entails and want to do it, go ahead.

FSD is just a super boring area imho and they don't seem to release a lot of people. SBA has insane cost of living. Rockford is a violent ghetto.

I'm from Michigan, so I have a hatred for most things Ohio instilled in me since birth. That being said, it isn't a bad place to live at all. Judging a US city by crime rates is one of the most stupid metrics you can go by... unless you regularly like to loiter in run-down parts of town at 1am; then by all means use that as a metric.

Important metrics to look at? Parks, schools, tax rates, entertainment venue density, cost of living, conservation/wetland areas, median home price/age/square footage. If you want to look at crime rates for an area that MIGHT be applicable to living there on a CPC salary, look at burglary and theft rates.

Will quote crime rates but not give a fuck about the victims of those crimes.

I don't think sports teams tell you anything about a city. Look at Buffalo, Green Bay, etc

What’s up union brothers and fellow dirty dogs.

Would appreciate any information in regards to facility work culture and local quality of life.

Thank you for your time and help.

Great list, if you want to get out west sba and cos are both great. I'd go Savannah or Charleston because I love the south east. Also Charleston is going to get upgraded soon when they absorb myrtle and Florence.

AVL is pretty I've been a bunch of times. It's super expensive for level six pay with rus locality.

This is such a dumb metric to go by. Also, the national perspective of Ohio is such a shame. It’s a great place to live. Also, stay away from the bad areas, and you all be fine.. just like literally every city in the world.

The sun could shine a bit more…but overall. Not bad.

They have changed the rules for the NEST facilities offered. They now offer any level appropriate facility which is projected below 100%. Quite a difference from 8 months ago when they were offering only facilities staffed below the national average. Great time to washout.
How do they determine the appropriate level? Is it subjective or is there some type of guidelines they use? I know it’s generally the highest level you’ve CPC’d at but that’s not always the case.

Pretty subjective. Say you went from lvl 5 to a lvl 11 (Radar) and washed. Depending on how many scopes you checked out on before you washed or withdrew they could offer you something like level 9 and below facilities. If you didn't check out on anything you would probably only be offered level 5 and below facilities. I haven't been able to find any specific formula they use.

Come back to Pure Michigan and come to D21!
I submitted ERR after ERR and applied for every Support Specialist gig for DTW and D21 that came up. Meanwhile, I submitted for Support Specialist at ZOB once and several weeks later they were all like:
