New story about the BioQ fiasco

It isn’t remembered by most but they were about to implement a whole new hiring program where they were going to rank the CTI schools based on their past performance and what kind of sims they had. This was killed in favor for bioq

I don’t know specifically, but there’s an entire staff of people at CAMI in OKC (many of them PhD’s making way more than controllers) whose sole job is to come up with the hiring test. My class met those nerds when I was there way back then. It’s pretty clear though that the ATSA is mostly a crap shoot in determining if people will be successful or not. There’s no reason you should have a hiring process as lengthy and “thorough” as the FAA’s only to lose half your new employees at the very first stage in training.
DOGE those Drs if they suck at their job that badly.

Personally got screwed by the BioQ at the start of my career, but this shit hasn't been around in nearly a decade.

Hearing about it in 2025 makes me think there's some bad faith connection to the anti-DEI stuff that's surrounding us now. Especially when the DOT is trying to act like this was somehow rampant during the Biden admin, when it wasn't.

Was the BioQ bullshit? Yeah, it was. But to quote Ton' again: "You gotta get over it."
Same and I agree with everything for the most part. Instead of going full bore on the BioQ and shutting out the people who either just graduated or were in the middle of a CTI program they should've done what they eventually did with the 2 hiring pools. I personally just graduated when they shut us out and it felt like a huge waste of my life, and then I wasted another 3 years trying to get hired for something I really wanted to do (and was eventually qualified to do). At this point though it is just being used in bad faith to tear down a lot indiscriminately. Actual DEI hires would've failed the academy or washed from their facility.

Shit sucks, I would be further along in my career at this point. I'd have more seniority, be closer to retirement in years and TSP, I'm missing 5 years off of my career right now because of actual poorly implemented DEI bullshit. But yeah there isn't anything I can do now other than feel bitter when bidding comes up every year.

I'm not sure there will ever be a test that will be able to determine who will make from off-the-street to CPC. That truly has always been a dilemma. The complex innate talents that make a controller are almost impossible to detect until put under pressure. We probably should be thankful that the academy culls out 50%.

The BioQ's implementation was unfair, but you all are still just giving me a bunch of emotional bullshit about it's worth. The BioQ could have been a great predictor or it could have been full of shit, but the point is that there is no evidence one way or the other. Yall just in your feelings
We’re all in our feelings but you’re still carrying on with your BioQ grandstanding…

I’m just wondering when I’ll be offered the 4 years of seniority I missed out on because I was the non-targeted demographic.

If the BioQ worked then what leg do people have to stand on? Mad everyone had to take the same test? That's why I keep bringing up the point but you guys keep wanting a therapy session.
Did it work? lol. I don’t know if it did. I was hired before this stuff occurred so besides the process taking awhile, I have no need for a therapy session. I’m just concerned with the state of our profession right now, which is arguably very close to all time lows. Morale is tanked, people are burnt out, and arguably safety is being compromised with recent events. Are we now not seeing the blowback with the idea that “anyone can do the job”, and it’s okay to prioritize anything except aptitude and effort????

Regardless it’s the question of what’s fair or not, clearly it was very wrong, and we should always be seeking the best candidates regardless of their gender, religion, skin color or what they identify as

What is lost in the weeds in the past 10 years is that this is a safety profession where you do in fact need the best and the brightest, who should be compensated appropriately for being the best.

TLDR; PAY ME and check my $TAT$ (I have an impeccable safety record myself)

You need people who actually have passion for it and seek it because it’s what they want to do. Not just advertise to video gamers and high school graduates

I agree to an extent. I was an OTS hire myself. I am not really into aviation but I do derive pleasure from doing a good job. To be frank the economy was in the shitter and this job was a good financial opportunity, which I took.

All things considered, I’m honestly not sure I’d pursue this job today in the same position I was. Which is a damn shame; we are going to lose out on quality young people who are driven and motivated to do a good job.

It did not work. You are attempting to defend something that is scientifically compromised because a racist leaked the answers.
