Ok, all of this is fair, I’ll give you that. We can all agree fuck Nazis, yeah? Nazis bad and Russia bad, yeah?
Yes fuck Nazis. My views on Russia are more nuanced. I'd say the Russian oligarchy/kleptocratic government? Bad, ya fuck em. Russia as a country? Pretty cool actually. Rich culture, really interesting history, some really beautiful places, very warm and inviting people when you get to know them.

I married one of em, I can't exactly throw the baby out with the bathwater on the whole place even if I wanted to but really, they deserve better than Putin there. That place has had a tough last 500 years.... Suffering and strong man governments are just part of the culture there and it's tough to affect change.

Yah for sure. Fuck nazis. Fuck putin. The weird thing is fuck putin didn’t used to be debatable
There we go. Fuck Putin, we agree on that

Yeah no kidding. I read about the Gulags and what not, pretty tough stuff.

But I agree with what you say about the people and the places. I haven’t been there myself but hopefully one day it’ll be cool to visit. People tend to be warmer and more welcoming outside of the USA, like there you get to know your neighbors and party every weekend.

I actually dated an Ukrainian years back, she was fine as heeeeeelllll! Ate all natural too, very well educated and knowledgeable about the world, also believe she spoke like 5 languages.

St Petersburg is one of my favorite places I've visited. Moscow was cool but it's likes combo/LA and DC, but old and with a really wierd mix of architecture. It's an odd city. St Basil's and the Kremlin in the snow is a sight to behold though. Done a few other smaller cities in central Russia up in the Urals went skiing there, did a beach vacay in Crimea, went all over there (Yalta also very cool). Ya its a cool place, but outside of Moscow and st Petersburg it can be a bit sketchy if you don't speak Russian or don't have a local with you.

Highly recommend a visit provided the iron curtain doesn't go back up and relations return to their normal state of standoffishness.

I think it’s gonna take full regime change at this point

Agree. Honestly that's what I am hoping for for them, and hopefully it's less chaotic than the 90s and they get some semblance of democracy. I want nothing but good things for that place, truly, but I think the sanctions have to happen and I hope they have the intended effect, which is regime change.

But I think they’re gonna want like elections with observers. Not just some guy hand picked by putin

Yea nobody said that.

You absolutely did.
You picking a fight with the American left for not defending Russians when there isn’t any measurable violence against Russians in the states is bizarre.

Oh look, the goalposts have been moved to “in the states” when I never specified that in my original point.

I think they have the right to thier own opinions, and that if America/the western democracies want to stand on their principles in front of the world they need to literally put their money where thier mouth is.

Yeah, they need to step up and “do their patriotic duty” and donate a significant amount of their wealth to this cause they’re championing. One of the things I hate most is celebrities pushing ordinary people to donate to charity, when they sit on millions of dollars of wealth. If they truly cared about a cause, they would forgo a lavish lifestyle and donate their wealth to make a change, not demand people much poorer than them struggle to make ends meet even further by donating their money. This is the same to me, out of touch elites.

I'd say we in the US are getting the good end of this compared to the Russians, or the Ukrainians.

I mean good luck getting any country to get rid of nuclear arsenals if you aren't gonna honor agreements you made to protect said nations against foreign interference and attacks.

Both of those are beside the point of elites telling me that I should be sacrificing for a political conflict that I have no stake in, that doesn’t pose a threat to me, which is the thing I take issue with.

You can also be for sanctions and be a little bit of a political cynic and never let a good crisis go to waste insofar as advancing things we must do but refuse to because it's hard, which yes there's probably a bit of that going on. Keep in mind a deal is being worked with Venezuela last I checked, that's geopolitics for ya, and these things don't happen overnight.

I’m still scratching my head as to why trying to broker a deal with Iran and Venezuela for oil is somehow better for the environment and American independence than reversing the many decisions Biden made to hamper US energy production.

Heaven forbid we don’t let oil companies drill on new federal land, what will they do with their billions in subsidies, they can get fucked, they don’t want to drill more, they get more money for drilling the same

I have no issue with anything you said here. Being outraged that Stephen Colbert is out of touch is kind of passe at this point though honestly. There are quite a few celebs matching donations and making large ones in the news recently, and I'm sure there's some doing it you'll never hear about.

Besides.... I read his quote, and your article makes it seem like a statement, and not the joke that it was that a comedian made on his comedy variety show. Seems to me like it was taken out of context. If you wanted to be a little open to interpretation on said joke you could even say it's a self deprecating indictment of elites, and I've never known Colbert to punch down in his comedy.

It's not. Though one could make the argument that Venezuela is gonna thrash it's ecosystem whether we buy their gas or not, so why thrash ours here at home. I use that shit I'm all for doing good things for our environment here at home, so it's got that going for it. Reducing foreign energy dependence is a different can of worms we are probably in agreement on.

Still nope. Anti-Muslim rhetoric after 9/11 was not okay. Anti-Asian rhetoric during Covid was not okay. And anti-Russian citizen rhetoric now is not okay. When Russians start openly facing violence and hatred in the streets like Asians and Muslims did I’m sure the left will speak out against it and then you can add #stoprussianhate to your Facebook profile picture and we can all be friends again. It just seemed like you were getting mad about something that people haven’t really had enough time or exposure to react to yet.

You literally posted evidence of it happening. Time to start waiting.

JFC she didn’t even dodge the question
Just inserted shit that has nothing to do with it lol
I don’t know how people keep falling for this shit. 13:16-17:30. Two questions are asked. She addresses both of them in the order they were asked
