Thoughts on a114 having to report to work?

We have had several instances of A114s fixing stupid stuff local and district management has tried to impose. Without them, we would be working harder and applying "rules" in an idiotic manner. Idgaf if they haven't been certified at their facility in 7 years. They helped out our entire facility multiple times.

The FAA does need to remove them the staffing numbers. But, the FAA is retarded.
Rich himself doesn’t support removing them from the staffing numbers. This clear fix has been on NATCAs leadership’s desk for years. Having them in the staffing numbers is detrimental to the local facility and creates toxic division within the bargaining unit. But those fucktards are too scared to fight AFN on it so here we are years later with a bunch of controllers tearing down other members on the internet. Our current leaders allow the poison to fester because somehow it’s become politically convenient. They completely sold out all our 114s. Right under the bus.

In my opinion there is no job besides NATCA president that deserves time off the boards entirely. None of these article 114 jobs deserve that much attention that they can’t work a few days a month and maintain currency. Hell work every Saturday 4 days a month like we do and call it good. It’s good for the facility and it’s good for them to maintain awareness of what the workforce is actually dealing with.

Depends on the job. Some require a ton of traveling and visiting facilities for extended periods of time.

I disagree with removing good time. You would end up with A114 being an even bigger "scam". It would be all old people coasting out the end of their career. If we have some younger people in the positions, knowing they could very well be working postion using the systems and policies they are creating, I feel we get a better product. If an OM gets good time, or an ATM at a level 7 tower gets it, A114s should as well.
The removing good time argument only becomes relevant if they are off the boards for more than five years.

Anyone not keeping currency should not be getting good time.

Personally none of my animosity comes from our leaders and entirely from two 114ers my facility has moving out of the damn state. No one should be introducing themselves and their “facility of record” at meetings and getting good time.

Then we should start keeping 114s in region. Have a workgroup that involves several facilities? Have a 114 somewhat local to each area commute and all involved can collab virtually. Shit’s a scam and a half as is.

The problem is that it's one of the dumber things to worry about as a CPC. Solution in search of a problem. The FAA will decimate CPC ranks for supes, and yall worried about the 50 people doing 114 stuff. Most of it for your benefit.

Oh the old ask your rep comeback
You don’t even know what they do? Why not ask what they do?

This, no one complaining about the 100s of sup deviations. But about the people actually helping you

Honest question. Do you actually not understand why a workforce that is mostly working 6 days a week, likely in an area they dont want to be in, with near 0 ability to transfer, while being about the only section of the industry they work with to not receive a large raise during the last 5 years, is unhappy about people in the Union landing jobs and details that have them at home 5 days a week, never coming to the facility or doing the actual job that we do, and that these same people are the ones telling those of us actually doing the job that our 1.6% raise is actually awesome, and in fact the only smart thing to do would be to extend our contract without asking for a real raise, to protect these peoples details and other official union time?

You guys act like its some kind of crazy talk to ask for the focus of the Labor Union to be on PAY, and WORKING CONDITIONS of the people actually doing the LABOR. Not the people sitting at home doing management's job for them in the name of Collaboration. That is the entire point of the JD/Redmond faction of the union IMO. Get back to basics of being a damn Union, and win something for the actual air traffic controllers. Maybe we can worry about the stay at home details after we get controllers more pay than a Senior Flight Attendant who works 10-15 days a month. Just an idea

No, I def understand. I don’t want to extend and I don’t think the 1.6% is enough. A lot of our hardships are because of Covid and all the shit that came along with it. 5/10,5/5 no hiring, no training. It’s going to take some time to recoup and recover from that and then the inflation that went crazy, we need the contract to be opened in 2026 to fix that part of it. It’s the government, it’s a slow grind. But you’ll always have your job security, sometimes you have to look at that positive and be patient for the win unfortunately.

When I worked at a low level this pissed me off. However at a 12 Tracon our supes do nothing except be in the operation, mostly CIC which adds positions controllers don’t have to staff and provides better breaks or they actually work 12 traffic. Who would know some of them aren’t dodging traffic. I have more respect for supes than A114s at this point.

Yeah? How many people have you lost to the supe ranks and how many people have you lost to 114 over your career?
