What advice would you guys give to a trainee to not be ostracized? From what I've seen so far its this:

jOiN ThE UnIoN
pUbLiClY PrEtEnD ThAt yOu lOvE YoUr fAc aNd wAnT To sTaY ThErE EvEn iF YoU WaNt tO MoVe
dOn'T CoMpLaIn aBoUt aNyThInG

I also don't talk about politics religion or money with people I work around as a hard rule

Just be cool and don’t have deals. Then after you cert quit the union, transfer and start talking about q anon

That is the sad truth to it and the moment you question this egregious system you are ostracized, at least unofficially, because you dared to question the order of things. Members of the NEB tout a litany of achievements that they have accomplished in these "unprecedented times" claiming no one could do better than they and that they know better. The Union on one hand "encourages" debate/discussion but with the other hammers you through petty means and character assassination.
This. That is the most accurate characterization that I’ve heard regarding the almighty union

This is so true, it’s painful.

I think one of the more sickening things that's been said by NEB members is that getting training started is not a priority at the moment. It must be nice making level 12 pay not having to worry about the financial issues those on AG pay have had for the past year.
Always follow the money as the old saying goes... The coffers of the Union are not lined with AG pay to say the least.

They’ve intentionally not labeled upward facility moves as career progression so they can suppress them however they want.

This is definitely a pet peeve of how the union/agency look at transfers. Going from a level 5 CPC to a level 10 CPC isn't a "promotion" but going from a level 10 CPC to a level 5 MSS-2 is. Like conceptually, how can you have different facility levels and say moving to a higher level isn't career progression? It would be more intellectually honest to say everyone gets paid the same whether you're working N90 or ISP or SYR.

You are all on the same pay scale so you get paid the same. If you are training at this level 5 tower talk about how great bumfrick is and how you want to spend the rest of your life here, especially now that applebee's is opening up and it's only 20 minutes away.

This situation really does highlight how utterly stupid and shortsighted the morons who run the union really are though. In the not too distant future, the trainees of today are going to make up the majority of the workforce. And I can guarantee you, a significant number of them will not be contributing anything from their CPC checks to the union that turned their back on them and treated them like garbage in 2020/21. A few years from now, “solidarity events” will be nothing more than a lame potluck with a few old timers bitching about how great 5/10 was in 2020 in the break room.

Been in the agency for 7 years now, happy to be a member and will be my entire career.

That being said, its very clear that the NATCA leadership is not interested in hearing any critique, or even questioning, of anything they do. If you aren't a yes man, youre on the blacklist. Forever. You either learn to be a 100% NATCA is amazing bro, or youre left on the sidelines, and then anytime you complain about anything youre told that if you think you can do better, just run.

This new leadership clique that is taking over at least my region, is not good. And they're all already sucking up to Rich Santa, putting his name in every email to my facility on the West Coast, prepping him to take over. If you disagree or are interested in hearing what any other potential candidate has to say, F you, youre blacklisted.

My facility has Trainees all coming in to sit in a trailer for 40 hours a week lmao. They get their currency for the month and then get told to F off and go back to the trailer. I dont blame them for being annoyed at having to come in to literally just stay out of the way. Its been a year, let them train.

I died when Rich Santa was thanked ahead of our own RVP in our latest “state of the local” report. Just a bit too on the nose.

I think you actually nailed the top three. Also in some instances it might be good to talk politics, but only if you are on the same page as the facility powerhouses, which could be right or left depending where you are so you need to feel that one out.

talk shit, but be able to back it up with how you move planes

Don't buy a house or anything long term that implies you think you're going to be there for a while.

"Did you see dingalings99 just bought groceries for a month?"
-He must think he's got certification in the bag.
Trainee life is hard. If you’re motivated and confident you’re “arrogant”, if you’re humble and quiet “you don’t care”. If you do things by the book that’s contrary to a CPC technique “that’s not the way we’ve always done things here”. If you copy a CPC, “they don’t know the book or how to do the job”

I think you underestimate the "I got mine" mentality.

Best description ever.
