Training hold

I would not be surprised that if you weren't a fully certified R or D side you would have to start from the first sector all over again and go from there. Months of training time to be added for all trainees. Cert times 5+ years

It should be like a previous certified controller. Like 10-30 hours per sector.

Problem with this is those non fully certified R sides are still working. So you’d be pulling certs on sectors they’re currently working and forcing them to retrain on them? Come on

But what about fully certified D-sides who haven't been on the floor in 120+ days?

That's the problem, it IS supposed to be kinda like that. Not sure if there is a specific hours requirement, but it's 'training' until you've gotten your skills back up to snuff. Not sure if they're going to be able to waiver that away.

ironically - traffic is down so low that a recheck / retrain would be basically pointless anyways. If it wasn’t a formality before (it was) it’s going to be even worse now.

Just face the music here folks - trainees right now are hosed.

The recert and training ref 120 days is in the 3120.4 page 4-7, for those that want some light reading material.

"Personnel who have not-worked an operational position for more than 120 days but less than 1 year must receive instructor-led, simulation training, and OJT prior to recertification. OJT hours must not exceed 50 percent of the target hours established for developmentals with no previous experience. "

Wasn't aware of the sim requirement... That might actually pose more of a problem than the training. On the upside, there appears to be no minimum hours requirement. We'll see if they can handle it with a hand wave/waive...

And yes, it feels like a hosing. Delays on top of delays, plus getting restarted and then further delayed because of the shutdown in the middle of training... Gotta love the FAA...

plus you have a workforce who think youll never be as good as them and they are awful teachers on top of that and do nothing but complain they cant ever get to where they want because of staffing, rather than help you certify to help them move on.

Yah. We’ll prolly be made fun of the trainees after us cus we certified with lower traffic.

32andBelow, I just want you to know that you are important and that we do care about you and your issues. You are meaningful to the workforce and you do play an important role in all of this.

Hope this pep talk makes you feel better during all of which you’ve endured.

Back in the hub days...

“You think this is busy? You should have seen our numbers before the Coronavirus!”

Will these both beat out the vaunted "pre 9/11 , pre RVSM" traffic!? I mean, a couple hundred thousand more casualties so i think we might have a new clubhouse leader. man some of those old CSRS geezers are gonna be rolling their grave. you know what would really crystallize and cement the Covid legacy.... hazard pay.

We were told that training would be happening on the traffic that we have and aren't going to wait for traffic to get back to what it was. As for certifying, I'm not sure. Though, I would imagine if they are willing to train, they will be certifying also.

Correct. Certifications will (should) also happen on whatever the traffic is when training resumes. People shouldn't have to be told that, waiting for busy traffic is one of the biggest hindrances to training even in the pre-virus times.

Then why is everyone still waiting?
