Training hold

Federal Employees from US Citizen and Immigration are facing furloughs now unless Gov’t gives them more money. They are a fee supported agency. Sound familiar?

Good thing we have a Union that got our appropriations allocated through the end of the fiscal year
But the fiscal year ends in just over 3 months. If training hasn’t restarted by the time budget discussions begin, you know there will be somebody somewhere that asks “if these people have been non-essential for 6 months, why do you need them at all?”

Again, that’s why we have the Union fighting for us on Capitol Hill. It’s actually a pretty easy argument. We were already in a staffing crisis before this started. Just because traffic is down doesn’t mean that has gone away. Once things ramp up again, those trainees will be crucial in aiding that crisis. Boom.

are we talking about the same Union? I’m thinking of the one who was actually wanting air traffic funded out of a solely fee-based fund. Thank goodness that didn’t happen.

So why don’t they write a email to the trainees explaining what they are doing to protect our job status.

Is the safety of the workforce and the ability to not potentially lose 100% of the staffing, at a facility due to a COVID outbreak, more important or the potential financial benefits of a few hundred employees? People waited years to get into the academy and you guys are complaining about the union taking the safety option available to help prevent the BUEs from getting sick and/or dying. Next thing you’re going to say is you should be allowed to sue your training team for not recommending you quicker due to financial losses or some other crap. It’s been FOUR months! WOW!!! Also, those people saying, while the traffic levels are significantly reduced across the board, crap like but “...my level 6 up/down is super busy...” It’s a 6 up/down, it isn’t busy.
What if your 12 tracon has been busy and it’s not A80? lol

You know Paul and Trish aren’t mythical figures, right? I’ve messaged both on Facebook and have gotten answers fairly quickly to all of my questions. Get off this website and go do some legwork yourself. It’s actually kind of rewarding

Not trying to be snarky, but that email wouldn’t help anything.
If you send out an email to a whole category of employees saying, “don’t worry, guys, there definitely probably won’t be furloughs,” you only get two reactions.
1. mnsalty will take that as evidence that there absolutely will be furloughs.
2. Tons of dues-paying people who weren’t worried about furloughs suddenly are.
If I were them I’d keep a lid on it either way, not that it’s necessarily the right thing to do.

Other unions don’t do that. Pilot unions are working with their junior guys and keeping them in the loop. Telling who needs to worry to start looking. I got an email from an RVP that said that natca got all the trainees out of the building (Not the faa) and how sweet are these schedules.

“if these people have been non-essential for 6 months, why do you need them at all?”

Every time we had government shut downs and furloughs I was hoping someone would say this and eliminate jobs. Not controller jobs but the layers and layers of redundancy jobs, administrative support people that you never noticed them do something once when they were there or noticed anything missing with them gone, or move people from teams like the airspace and training departments at centers which often have 4X the people they need back to the floor.

But it never happen, like never, never. Never, never.
