Training hold

Trainee life is hard. If you’re motivated and confident you’re “arrogant”, if you’re humble and quiet “you don’t care”. If you do things by the book that’s contrary to a CPC technique “that’s not the way we’ve always done things here”. If you copy a CPC, “they don’t know the book or how to do the job”
Don’t forget knowing how to do the same thing 5 different ways depending on whose training you.

I just wanted to say that all of my posts here are satire and not meant to be taken seriously. I am 100% behind NATCA and am absolutely grateful they have been instrumental in me receiving a paycheck during this trying time. I look forward to resuming my training and getting raises if only for the chance to be able to give more of my earnings to NATCA. They have been lifesavers during this trying time and I challenge all of you to support this union more financially than you have already. Bless all of you brothers and sisters.

I’ve reached the point where I just do what I want. If the CPC doesn’t like it we can discuss it later. Is it safe? If yes, then fucking send it. If no, don’t do it.

This situation really does highlight how utterly stupid and shortsighted the morons who run the union really are though. In the not too distant future, the trainees of today are going to make up the majority of the workforce. And I can guarantee you, a significant number of them will not be contributing anything from their CPC checks to the union that turned their back on them and treated them like garbage in 2020/21. A few years from now, “solidarity events” will be nothing more than a lame potluck with a few old timers bitching about how great 5/10 was in 2020 in the break room.

Exactly this. I know it's not easy to get trainees in the building due to social distancing and what not, but they could have tried pitching SOMETHING to management. Instead, every time we asked they just shrugged their shoulders and said, "I dunno." How about rotating trainees through once people on their D's and R's are certified? The union told me to shut up and be grateful I have a job. "Look at Canada."

Be grateful you'll still get dues out of me until I certify.

There’s no reason something couldn’t be figured out to at least get people in to run problems in the labs. Our facility has brought people back a half dozen times to do eLMS, so apparently it’s “safe” to sit in the CBI lab but not the sim lab? That’s what tells me there’s something deeper going on here. Someone somewhere doesn’t want trainees progressing.

As NATCA presidential nominee I can't guarantee I will have an answer for the training debacle, but I will have an answer as to why your suggestions won't work. Although I agree both of you have legitimate questions, and solutions, sometimes there won't be an adequate answer. As president I do promise to respond to you personally though, regardless of if you're a CPC or not, you deserve that information, and I will get it to you.

I love it when trainees try to tell their trainers how they are going to use their ticket.

What will I do if you fire me as your trainer? Oh, no. I guess I’ll just have to take another break to figure it out.

Wtf does this even mean. Sounds like you want your trainee to do it your way and no other way. The worst.
Not at all. But if you are using someone else’s ticket then you do it their way or find a new trainer. It’s not your deal if you put two together.

As a trainer, I think it’s fun to watch a trainee do the stupidest shit, and then try to make it right and just create a cluster fuck. Yeah you work hard trying to fix it. But it’s easier to show a trainee why something doesn’t work, rather than telling them. Keep separation at the top of it, let them use your ticket to learn, not reciprocate.

I think the issue is, there are just some people who really have no business being trainers. They either hate doing it and hence take out their frustrations on the trainee, or they just adhere to the old school philosophy of “I was treated like shit as a trainee, so I’m going to do the same to them.” Training shouldn’t be a fucking hazing ritual. But some people seem to treat it that way.

I agree but I also think that if your trainer tells you to do something then you do it.

It is comical to read trainees who think they just get to do whatever they want and they can talk about it later. That’s not how this works. That’s not how any of this works.

Then after you fix it you get the “it woulda worked if you let me do it my way” ?.

To an extent this is true, a trainee 100 % needs to realize it's not cool to experiment on someone else ticket. But I think one area of training that folks over look is the "pre-brief". If a trainee is progressing they should be able to ask their trainer before they plug in if they can try different techniques so the OJTI isn't suprised by something.

Pre brief? What’s that? /s

THIS. As a trainer, if it was done right with the right people, you should be teaching and instructing. More than half the trainers I had and at my facilities have had a worthless mindset and it’s no wonder so many facilities have such low success rates and the entire experience isn’t a positive one.

Obviously you have to do something your trainer asks you too. But the trainee should have some latitude within the rules to try things out and see what works for them. Trainers that sit back and let you learn on your own are the best IMO

I’m sure he’s the type that berates his D side for offering a different opinion. One of the my way isn’t just the best, it’s the only way types
