3120.4 Update

Stinger have you heard anything about this new training order that is supposed to go into effect April 30th?
It’s a new .4. Should be getting briefed around. Some basic changes here and there. There are two different types of SET now. One good one that you ask for and one for deficiencies. Forget the new names. Think that’s the biggest thing I remember.

What’s SET?

It's in effect now. 3120.4R
Facilities just had 180 days to come into compliance with it.
Passing scores for all things are 70%. Passing scores of a higher value require the VP or something approval.
Skill Checks are now called Performance Assessments (PAs.)
Training team recommendation for a certification check requires 50% of the training team to say yes, with one of them being from the supervisor.

There's some other changes, but I'll have to look back at it to review.

Wait, 50% of training team. So 4 on a team(3 controllers, 1 supe) so how does a supe recommend someone when they don’t work the sector?

It just means that 1 or more of your trainers have to recommend to get certified. So like the sup can’t just do it themselves.

“skill enhancement” got canceled cus it’s too mean

Nah man it clearly says supe has to recommend. I get the supe can’t do it themselves, fuck those Supes that do. I think it is saying the supe has to agree with the one controller?

I mean doesn’t the sup always have to agree to do the checkride? It’s to prevent the sup from giving the check ride with 0 trainer recommendations.

it depends how many people are on your training team. Like I had 3. So it would be 2 controllers i thought. Maybe maybe just 1 controller and 1 sup?

I think one is skill improvement, I can't remember what the second one is. Maybe skill deficiency.

Sup is part of the training team. So they would count in that number.
So supe just gets to hear about how the trainee does and makes a decision or the trainee sucks enough dick to supe and one controller and certifies. I guess nothing is changed except supe can’t just certify

Puts on chapstick
it's a tough life

Sounds like it's the same, but I think before there were cases of a sup doing it without any trainers-now in theory, if a sup wasn't certifying the controllers would be the high percentage as well

Rather than guess on here, this is what the order actually says. no where does it say 50 percent, and its specifies at least some portion of who that majority has to be, the supe. the supe and the trainee on a team of 4 isn't the majority. so at least 1 ojti now has to agree.

a. The CSC must:

(1) Be conducted following a Training Team meeting where a majority of the team members recommend a CSC. The OS must be among the majority.

To me this just makes it mandatory a discussion of a Certification skills check must occur and be documented prior to being conducted. This should prevent a supe just checking someone out or it gives the OJTI the opportunity to convince a supe that a DEV is ready if they need convincing. this is a good addition to the training order and makes it mandatory the OJTI have more input. the team should be talking and be on the same page if someone is ready or not, this just makes the discussion mandatory. Of course some facilities wont do this or will take it some other way but that happens already and is the nature of things. oh well.

Thank you. This makes more sense at least and will be better. I’ve seen a CSC turn into just a SC, then later in the day have another CSC. Only after controllers had recommended and supe wanted to see better controlling for certifying.

also brings to question, say the trainee has 1 trainer... majority would be supe and trainee?

Developments are now called trainees.

training reports must be submitted by end of the shift.

Have to develop a training checklist that the trainer is responsible for marking off, but the trainee is responsible for bringing to each session.

other stuff seems to already have been covered.

Developmentals back to trainees? Wonder if someone got offended by that.
