Does the background check or FAA ever contact your current place of employment during the process? Just wondering since my employer obviously has no idea im leaving....

Couldn't find anything through search on it

They will send something to your current employer likely while you still work there.

I'm curious, are there any OTS candidates here who applied for the first time in 2017 without hearing about the job from word of mouth, stuckmic, here, or reddit? If so, how did you hear about it?
i was browsing usajobs for stuff that sounded cool, had made it to air stuff when i decided to try searching for the word 'developmental' and boom
pretty lucky because that was the first time i'd been on the site!

I had read into becoming a controller months prior but no bid was open at the time. Checked usajobs on a whim 3 months later and the bid was halfway through. Put my resume together in a day and half and applied. First time applying and was blessed enough to get a TOL. On my way out the door now from the Army because of this.

I left mine blank... it didn’t say (required) so it’s not necessary.

Just gathering my references... i know they cannot be my relatives but does anyone know if there’s any rules to them being related to each other ? Like if I use two of my friends who are siblings?

References? Was that in the EODS when you first get the e-mail or are you just working ahead?

First time applicant, OTS. I met a pilot one night when I was working at a nightclub in town. I had no idea what ATCs did aside from common, basic knowledge and he told me a little about the job. I was super interested from that point on. He didn’t really know how I were to go about applying for it, so he gave me a few numbers of people to contact at my nearest facility. I didn’t, because I used to be the king of procrastination.

Someone that I became friends with is an ATC and I didn’t even know it. He made a Facebook post asking if anyone was interested in being an ATC and to make a long story short, he told me there was going to be a bid coming up at some point during the upcoming year. I applied, received an e-mail about testing months later, then googled information about the at-sat which led me to both here and stuckmic. I purchased the atsa software and practiced my ass off and eventually received a TOL.

So for those who have done it already or know the answer, what all do we do during the medical? Typical physical with BP, heart rate, turn your head and cough, etc? Blood work. Not nervous or anything just curious.

Is anyone with approved EODS paperwork still waiting for a CIL? My paperwork was approved 2 weeks ago and I didn’t know if that merited a call to hr. Anyone else in the same boat? I’m happy to hurry up and wait but from what I’ve read on the forums it seems that CILs were sent shortly after EODS forms were approved.

In the EODS and the OF306 from the CIL the following questions are asked:

For questions 9,10, and 11, your answers should include convictions resulting from a plea of nolo contendere (no contest), but omit (1) traffic fines of $300 or less, (2) any violation of law committed before your 16th birthday, (3) any violation of law committed before your 18th birthday if finally decided in juvenile court or under a Youth Offender law, (4) any conviction set aside under the Federal Youth Corrections Act or similar state law, and (5) any conviction for which the record was expunged under Federal or state law.

9. During the last 7 years, have you been convicted, been imprisoned, been on probation, or been on parole? (Includes felonies, firearms or explosives violations, misdemeanors, and all other offenses.) If "YES," use item 16 to provide the date, explanation of the violation, place of occurrence, and the name and address of the police department or court involved.
YES
NO

10. Have you been convicted by a military court-martial in the past 7 years? (If no military service, answer "NO.") If "YES," use item 16 to provide the date, explanation of the violation, place of occurrence, and the name and address of the military authority or court involved.
YES
NO

11. Are you currently under charges for any violation of law? If "YES," use item 16 to provide the date, explanation of the violation, place of occurrence, and the name and address of the police department or court involved.
YES
NO

I received a speeding ticket in California 6 years ago. CA has really egregious fines and I ended up paying over $300 total to the court with all fees. On question 9 would I answer yes? On the EODS I already answered 'no' because I truly thought that I had paid less than $300, but then I looked into it after I submitted the EODS and it turned out that I did in fact pay over $300. Now the EODS was approved by my POC but the OF306 from the CIL is asking the same questions again. I'm not sure what to do here. I'm not even sure if question 9 is asking about speeding tickets. I should also mention that the base fine for the ticket was only $70 but with the fees and all it surmounted to over $300.

You joke, but there's a lot of truth to this. This past bid was relatively quiet. I can't tell you how many articles I've seen in the past from Forbes, CNN, Huffington Post, etc. claiming SIX FIGURES - NO EXPERIENCE NEEDED - APPLY TODAY which sent droves to usajobs.gov. Unless you count a tweet from NATCA, this past panel largely came and went without any real advertisement.

I fall under this category. I work at an airport, and was lamenting to some of the ATSS guys working on our PAPIs about how boring life is at a municipal airport. One of them suggested I check out the off the street program for ATC hires on USAJOBS (I have an ex who works for the Forest Service so I was familiar with the website). I would check it once a week or so for ATC jobs, and lo and behold, I caught the 7/7 bid with like 2 days left. Threw together a quick resume and passed it in, and here I am!

I would first check and see what the court disposition says. Granted you paid over 300 in total fees but if you were actually only fined 70 you might not need to worry about it. I would get a hold of the actual disposition then get in contact with your HR rep/security rep and let them know what happened. The last thing you need is to think it's no big deal and don't list it on your sf86. If it actually shows up as a fine over 300 and you didn't list it you're putting your security clearance at risk and thus the job at risk. Just my two cents.

That was my thought too. Usually the actual fine is only like 1/4th of what you actually pay

They will send something to your current employer likely while you still work there.

The emails sent from HR even say not to make any changes to your employment until you get the FOL with a class date. I’m wondering if they do contact your current employer during the security clearance period because in my current job that would make things really difficult since they obviously have no clue that I’ve applied.

Last bid multiple questionnaires were sent to my employer about me while i still worked there. My boss showed them to me and it's pretty clear what it is for.

Should have asked this earlier but it just came to mind, any clue if they reach out to prior employers? I really don’t know if my old bosses still work at the companies I used to work for so not sure if that matters to the security clearance POC or not. Also, did you receive the questionnaire during the security clearance or after receiving a FOL?
