We obviously deserve a raise but comparing yourselves to medical doctors is wild
Pilot is a good comparisonWe obviously deserve a raise but comparing yourselves to medical doctors is wild
You should quit and go do those jobs then. What’s stopping you?Talking about inherent skills: relative of mine is a real estate agent with only HS diploma; another relative a manager at a bank with only a HS diploma (has coworkers who are financial advisors with only a HS diploma bringing in 400k/year). I’m at a 12. Everyone I just listed makes more. We should weed out more people and make this career as prestigious as it was. I’d rather work short than with someone I don’t trust.
I never quite got this argument. I’ve invested 10 years in learning and crafting my abilities. It’s like telling a pilot 10 years in to their career or a doctor after 10 years of med school and residency that they should go somewhere else… At some point you are a bit locked in to your craft. Can we leave? Sure. Should the FAA realize they aren’t doing enough for us as a whole? Absolutely. Hardest part for us is we can’t go anywhere else. We can’t go from American Airlines to United with a better deal. We are stuck. So we gotta advocate for what we can.You should quit and go do those jobs then. What’s stopping you?
I'm into this idea! Except that's not what we do now. If there were higher standards and accountability then I think we could demand higher wages more easily. We should weed out more people and make this career as prestigious as it was. I’d rather work short than with someone I don’t trust.
that’s the problem when we say you just need a high school diploma to do thisI'm into this idea! Except that's not what we do now. If there were higher standards and accountability then I think we could demand higher wages more easily.
You won't attract applicants capable of meeting your higher standards at these wages, that's the issue. We NEED a pay raise nowI'm into this idea! Except that's not what we do now. If there were higher standards and accountability then I think we could demand higher wages more easily.
What’s wild about it?! The statement remains true whether you like it or not. You’re responsible for more lives in one shift than a doctor would ever be their entire career. You literally CAN’T afford a serious mistake, there’s no undo button, no corrective surgery. How’s that hard to comprehend?!We obviously deserve a raise but comparing yourselves to medical doctors is wild
Still, how does that change that you can’t afford to not miss that plane. These are the dropouts we’re dealing with. A life is still a lifelmao. “Turn 30 degrees right, vector for traffic” or “amend altitude maintain…” is not the same as knowing about the human body and how to remedy disease. Or surgery. We have a great job with a lot of responsibilities, but for fuck’s sake this is not physician level brain power we’re doing.
Tell me all you know about TCASTell me about the medical version of TCAS...
After this fuck up - dude is still probably making 200k gross after this fuck up with no real corrective action taken by the FAA. And they will bring home over 100k in retirement for 40 years if they're lucky.Still, how does that change that you can’t afford to not miss that plane. These are the dropouts we’re dealing with. A life is still a life
Why THE FUCK is a near miss like this a big deal then. Everyone lived. Let’s all move on. Nothing to see or talk about here. They all landed and aborted a takeoff. This shouldn’t even be a topic of discussion. This job is useless when someone lives
Which brings us back to the pay issue. We are so underpaid that people need every centThe OJTIs that love that 20% are loving the NTI. Going around begging trainees to train with them
I’m not arguing at all. I just find it comical when OJTIs be poaching trainees like “don’t train with him, I’ll get you certified, he won’t”Which brings us back to the pay issue. We are so underpaid that people need every cent

Or will stay on for 2+ just because it rows them up with trainees.
It’s definitely someone that gets on a plane and tells the pilot he’s an air traffic controllerAfter this fuck up - dude is still probably making 200k gross after this fuck up with no real corrective action taken by the FAA. Taxi cab drivers have people's lives in their hands. Food safety workers have people's lives in their hands (sometimes thousands per shift).
If you can't see a difference between these jobs it's because you're being wilfully ignorant to try to bolster your ego driven opinion.
I get on a plane and tell them “I’m DEFINITELY NOT a controller”It’s definitely someone that gets on a plane and tells the pilot he’s an air traffic controller
