PC builds

nope. there's stock online regularly but its still marked up 2x+
nowinstock.net is pretty good if you're able to snipe stuff quickly; I was able to get 4 PS5s using it. Also there are several stock tracking livestreams on YouTube that are decent as well. YMMV with price though; initial MSRP for all the GPUs are dead ever since the tariff kicked in a year ago.

I just bought a Synology NAS that I will be partially using as a Plex Server. I have over 1000 Blu-Rays and DVDs I want to start backing up digitally so my 6.5tb worth of storage on my PC just won't cut it. How do you like Plex so far? Any tutorial videos or links you recommend for torrents and everything else?
Honestly I love it, I would just make sure you have the proper raid set up for you. Some people like to have it set up for max storage, others like having backups incase of drive failure. I have mine set up as a JBOD, no redundancy. I just download the media, and have my files seperated into folders for tv shows / movies / other (for family videos/skydiving/mtn biking/concerts/etc). Makes it super easy, but due to my internet speed I dont have remote access outside of the house, so that makes it easier.

Recently upgraded my PC build from 2020 and then "upcycled" those parts into a second build that I was going to sell, but my wife decided she likes it and wants to keep it for herself.

My 2024 "update" on my 2020 build:
Ryzen 5800X3D cpu
Thermalright SI100 ARGB cooler
Asus ROG Strix X570 mobo
4x8gb Crucial Ballistix 3600mhz RAM
Sapphire Pure RX 7900 GRE gpu
WD Black SN770 2tb nvme
Crucial P3 Plus 2tb nvme
Seagate BarraCuda 4tb hdd
Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 850w 80+ Gold PSU
NZXT H510 Case
Thermaltake CT120 and CT140 case fans

I haven't let it stretch its legs quite yet, but it should handle 1440p ultra settings gaming without breaking too much of a sweat.

WD Blue SN550 500gb nvme

I was lucky that the only new items I bought for the second build was the mobo, ram, and case. The gpu I was able to find a killer open box deal on. Not including the original cost of the upcycled/repurposed parts, it only cost me just over $400. Should be good enough to handle 1440p medium/high settings for her for quite some time.

Lookin good.

I use solid metal cases so I can shove cables in without feeling guilty about the rats nest it becomes. Then stick it under the desk for extra dissonance.

That Radeon gpu is clean as fuck looking, curious why you didn't go for DDR5

AM4 (3700x & 5800x3d) doesn't support DDR5 and these builds were an upgrade on an existing build and a "new" build with repurposed parts from the original build.

The white one is the upgrade on my original build from 2020: a 3700x with a 5700xt GPU. I upgraded my CPU to the 5800x3d and my GPU to the 7900gre so as to get a few more years out of my original build. I also upgraded/replaced my case fans, CPU cooler, primary nvme drive, and PSU while I was at it.

At that point I had a "spare" CPU (3700x) and cooler, power supply, nvme drive, and an extra 1tb SSD laying around: my options were to either sell the parts off for maybe $100 if I'm lucky or base another build on them and then try to sell that for a profit.

All those parts went into the black build after I bought a decent B550 mobo, case, RAM, and GPU. I actually got the 6750xt as an open-box deal from Newegg for $249 with an additional $25 promo code/rebate so that was a hell of a steal. Mobo, case, and RAM (and thermal paste) was another $200. So roughly $425 in parts plus the parts I already had, which I might have been able to eventually sell for $100 on Facebook, and another $25 for a Windows activation key means I was sitting at about $550 in total cost.

I figured I could try to list it for $950 and let someone talk me down to $850 (still a steal for both of us at that point). But then my wife saw it and decided it had a different destiny...

But if any of y'all are near ZOB and want a build for yourself, I'm getting pretty good at these mid-range builds.

Sorry I'm restarted and read 7800x3d, having two microcenters here is a killer for the wallet

Fortunately/unfortunately my Microcenter is on the opposite side of our metro and over an hour away; really helps keep my impulses in check when I know it'll cost me 4 gallons of gas and almost 2.5 hours of round trip driving. 😂
