It is really geared more towards the NCR than anything if truth be told.

Telework is a no-brainer for saving agencies money, but we can't do that because the managerial class runs way more on emotion and feelings than we'd like to admit. What's the point of being the boss if you can't boss someone around in person.

Look if you have a support specialist job, or some sort of NATCA supported office job.. I fully support you working from home if you want to do it. I couldn’t do it, however I doubt it loses much productivity since there isn’t much to begin with. Those guys don’t count against staffing numbers or collect good time.
If you’re an A114, collecting good time, hurting your facility numbers, working on some non sense like childcare or wake turbulence or whoever knows whatever nonsense else (I recognize there’s probably a couple good ones still). This is what hurts our union morale. Not to mention because most of these people are in the good old boy club and want to talk down to members because they think they know the way. Or they think they know what the average workforce is experiencing, they have less of a clue than FAA management. I don’t support it, most people don’t support it and it needs reformed at a minimum.

look I understand the feelings about a114s. Some of them are probably not doing as much as we’d like. I know of a few personally that do a lot of work and have benefited my own facility greatly. The trouble is you have countless managers that haven’t worked traffic in 20+ years and sit in an office and make policy/equipment decisions for all of us on a daily basis. If we don’t have someone there that has our best interest in mind, we lose out. You guys know yourself half of your OS’s can barely run your areas/towers properly, let alone make huge decisions on your equipment and policy. If an a114 isn’t doing their job or enough to make a difference, remove them and put the right person in place. Accountability is everything

The most dangerous phrase for an organization: “that’s the way we’ve always done it.”

Bringing workers back to the agency offices full time would just be another poor decision made by those who don’t utilize the facts to justify their management.

Besides the obvious benefits of cost savings, etc., the agency is really doing itself a disservice by not taking advantage of all the talent available. Very few people went to relocate to the service area offices or DC so there’s an over representation of people from DCA, ZDC, or PCT staffing these roles. That creates a myopic perspective in positions that affect everything downstream.

I never understand the article 114 hate. In many cases they work harder and face more stress than controllers. Also they don't get the huge breaks that controllers get or differential pay. Allowing them to work remote seems obvious, hold a zoom meeting once or twice a week and call it good. The more you try to micromanage these positions the less work they end up producing.

Remote work is the way of the future no matter how much the older generations try to fight it. They’ll be some wins and losses but as millennials and gen z continue to take over the workforce, remote work will triumph. Now with article 114, they do good work but they should still work some traffic. Or else they need to give up good time. It’s unfathomable to me you can be on article 114 indefinitely at a low staffed facility. That crosses a line in my opinion.

I've been at my facility for 7 years. We have an A114er that I've literally never seen. Couldn't even tell you what they look like. Why are A114 career positions now?
Are they doing a good job in the role they are in? That’s the question to ask

We have had several instances of A114s fixing stupid stuff local and district management has tried to impose. Without them, we would be working harder and applying "rules" in an idiotic manner. Idgaf if they haven't been certified at their facility in 7 years. They helped out our entire facility multiple times.

The FAA does need to remove them the staffing numbers. But, the FAA is retarded.

Rich campaigned that they want to review them all and make sure they are doing a good job and are all still relevant. That seems like an insanely sane position to take.

Create a group to make sure the other groups are grouping correctly.

Don't get me wrong, it's obviously a good position to put on a platform. But that's all it is. The reality is that this shit should already have checks and balances. If article 114 jobs are slipping through the cracks while you're president, just what the fuck has Rich and the NEB been doing. You're essentially highlighting your own uselessness.

Our entire union is dysfunctional. They’re bound by a constitution that you can’t get anything meaningfully amended. We could even get the wildly popular no extensions without vote amendment passed.

I think the scary part is they create a group that gets to work from home and do all these projects and they have different priorities than the rest of us. If they knew they were going to come back to the floor every couple years for a couple years then everyone would have the same priorities and incentives to improve quality of life.

This and removing good time makes the most sense.
I disagree with removing good time. You would end up with A114 being an even bigger "scam". It would be all old people coasting out the end of their career. If we have some younger people in the positions, knowing they could very well be working postion using the systems and policies they are creating, I feel we get a better product. If an OM gets good time, or an ATM at a level 7 tower gets it, A114s should as well.
