Is this considered temporary because if you fail the Academy you're out?
That's not unique to this bid. I think its the other way around, if you fail this you can be offered another position (not the advertised job, N90)
Additional information regarding these positions is located at: Aviation Careers

    • AT-2152 AG - this is the position level for selectees who are NOT former FAA 2152 Certified Professional Controllers (CPC); salary $39,115 plus applicable locality pay based on facility assignment.

Yes.
Side note: this is a prior experience bid also.

Edit: another interesting note; prior academy failures are not automatically excluded from selection.

Is it possible to receive a TOL for both bids or will they make you choose? I have 5 years Tower, should I even bother apply? Doesn’t look like you specifically need radar in the announcement.

you don't need radar, only 52 weeks of post cert exp. Yes you can apply to both, but you will be forced to pick one or the other should you be selected on both.

I'll add, I think this bid is a virtual guarantee to get selected. They are aggressively pushing people to N90 right now.

If n90 is how I get in the FAA fastest then my ass is going to get rated one way or another.

And to clarify for those who do want to come here, it's not the facility I have issues with. It's Long Island. This is a terrible terrible place. But if you like NYC, or crowds, or 24 hour traffic, or paying double for the same thing, then you'll have no problems.

As terrible as it would be for me to commute, I would do it over ever actually living on LI

As terrible as it would be for me to commute, I would do it over ever actually living on LI

There's several people here who commute from NJ and CT. I don't know how they do it. 90+ min commute each way on top of a 10 hour day? Hell naw

Why don't you guys live on, like, Long Beach? that place looks kinda cool...

I lived in Long Beach my first year and a half. It was cool at first, great night life, but by the end I was so happy to get out of there. The winter there is devastatingly brutal from the wind, there's never parking anywhere near your apartment and a 6 block walk in 20 degree weather with average 35mph winds isn't fun, and in the summer you're lucky if you park within a 1/2 mile. A parking spot in my apartment complex was $150/mo with a 6 month waiting list. Plus my apartment was a 500 sq ft 2 bedroom for $2200/mo, and one thermostat controlled the whole building so in the winter it was 86 degrees inside. Ran my AC more in the winter than in the summer. But if you're single, summer nights in Long Beach is the place to go out.

I live in Huntington now just over the Suffolk County border. I love this town. It's the culinary capital of LI. Tons of great restaurants and bars, right near the Sound, easy commute most days unless you're stuck working a shift that matches with rush hour.

I just checked my usajobs account and I was Not Referred for my N90 application. That’s he quickest Not Referred I’ve ever seen. This happen to anyone else?

My buddy who also applied to both the N90 and the all locations bid was also Not Referred.
EDIT: I refreshed the page and it changed to Referred! Same for my buddy.

Someone on a stuckmic thread said that if you are hired specifically for n90 and go the tetra course that you will never be able to transfer out of n90 for your entire career. Is this true?

Once/if they ever hit their staffing target then I'm sure you'll be able to transfer out, but it's going to be a long time before that happens.
