Fair question. I think it's a very complex issue that needs more fixing than "reduced spending" can offer alone. But in a simple world, I think a lot of funding could be cut out of various departments because we see a lot of overlap/duplication. We need to stop sending hundreds of billions overseas. We need to fund our military well of COURSE, but not overfund it. Are we able to maintain military preeminence with less than we spend now? You bet we can. Why are we ok with the pentagon failing the last 6 audits (maybe it's 7 now) worth TRILLIONS.
Education is another interesting one. It's been proven time and time again that more money does not equal more success. I'd like a reassessment of what is working instead of just throwing money at shit that hasn't worked for decades.
The Gov. Accountability Office alone releases annual reports identifying areas that save hundreds of billions of dollars just by finding duplication and overlap. We need more of THAT.
I don't think it's as simple as saying "cut funding from XYZ and ABC." There are a ton of areas which have more overlap, duplication, and antiquated processes that cost us billions. I want those areas identified and rectified.
